Famous names such as Tony O'Shea, Ross Montgomery , Martin Phillips and Jan Dekker all entered the stage. The Dutch team were in a group with Wales and Scotland and the English were against both Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland.

Rick Hofstra was a stable factor and Wesley Harms and Benito van de Pas got the points they needed. It was a real struggle in which the Netherlands stopped Scotland going any further. BDO 6 Nations Cup-Day 1

Today saw the Winmau Darts Six Nations Cup 2013 start on the island of Texel. A championship between England, Scotland, Ireland, Wales, Northern Ireland and of course the Netherlands. Big names like Lakeside champion Scott Waites, Wesley Harms, Tony 'Silverback' O'Shea, Trina Gulliver and Deta Hedman are all in the Netherlands to fight for their nation.

The program started with the ladies final of the Nations Cup last year between England and Wales. Where in the previous years this was an exciting fight, with England clearly stronger. Known names in the English team are Deta Hedman, Trina Gulliver and Lisa Ashton. They all scored well and eventually won 8-1. The second match for the English ladies was impressive. Winning 9-0 over Northern Ireland. This means that the English ladies themselves as group winners qualified for the semi-finals on Sunday. Wales also qualified for the semifinals with a thrilling game 5-4 to win the Northern Irish ladies.

Netherlands started the tournament against Scotland with Aileen de Graaf , Floortje van Zanten and Lakeside participant Sharon Prince . The orange ladies had a hard time in the opening stage and looked like they were going to lose 5-1 but they didn't give up. They won the last three legs in a row but, unfortunately lost 5-4. The Scottish ladies knew then that they needed to win the second match against Ireland to be group winners. On Sunday they play in the semi-final against Wales. Netherlands won the last match of the evening against Ireland with some brilliant finishes. Sharon Prince hit a 120 finish and Aileen de Graaf took out a 108 finish to win. The Dutch play England on Sunday.

Tomorrow promises to be another great darts spectacle when the men will compete against each other.

Results:

Group 1. Wales 1-8 England
Group 2. Netherlands 4-5 Scotland
Group 1. England 9-0 Northern Ireland
Group 2. Scotland 6-3 Ireland
Group 1. Northern Ireland 4-5 Wales

I Predict a Riot Exhibition

Last night saw the I Predict a Riot Exhibition in Leicester. It was the Young Guns v Lets call them the Legends.

The young guns were Gaz 'super G' Cousins, Cain 'the Enemy' Unwin, Sam 'the Mole' Hill, Bradley 'the Colt' Coltman and Ricky 'Swampy' Evans.
The Legends were Steve 'the Bronzed Adonis' Beaton, Terry 'the Bull' Jenkins, Andy 'the Pieman' Smith, Wez 'the Warrior' Newton and Wayne 'Hawaii 501' Mardle.

The first match of the evening was Jenkins v Cousins.
Cousins gained a PDC tour card in 2012 at Q school and shot in to a 3-0 lead against the Bull, but Terry soon woke up hitting a couple of 180's to fight back to 3-3. Terry won the match in the end 4-3, in a very close game.

The second match was Smith v Unwin.
Unwin who will be playing on the PDC challenge tour this year, held his own trading legs with Andy up to 2-2. Eventually the Pieman took control of the game winning the next 2 legs to win th match 4-2.

The last match before the interval was Beaton v Hill.
Hill who finished 8th in last years youth tour and will be seeded for this years world youth finals took the 1st leg against Steve, Beaton pulled the leg back, then Sam took the next. The Adonis then won the next 3 legs winning the game 4-2.

The interval, and more important the food was next. The food was class. Sausage and chips from the local chippy, which everyone loved by the way. Apart from Wayne Mardle who said he was on a diet but forced it down anyway!

The next match was Mardle v Coltman.
Coltman who is only 15 and a fantastic prospect for the future won the first leg! We were sat just in front of the players at the back of the room, and to hear Steve Beaton chuckle when Bradley took the first leg was a bit special. Wayne was doing his showman act messing about on stage, he hit a 180 and run off the stage high fiving everyone in the room. By the time he got back up there he was knackered! Eventually After the messing about Wayne won the game 4-1.

The last game of the night was Newton v Evans.
Evans who will be playing in the PDC Pro-tour and youth challenge this year was in charge of the match. He won the 1st 2 legs, then Wez fought back to make it 2-2. In the end Evans battled through to win the game 4-2.

Nicola Cowell was looking as beautiful as ever doing the walk-ons with all the players, and Adie Mason was in fine form as the MC for the night.

The night also saw Barrie Bates and Mark Walsh turn up to watch. The night was finished off with music from 2Real and the video link below is of the Legends having a boogie later in the night. Whatever next!!

http://youtu.be/IEJmFIpdJD8

Well done to all the Young guns, the Legends, Nicola and Adie and the people behind the scenes for making the night a huge success. Also to Jon Archer and his wife for putting on the exhibition in the first place. Looking forward to the next one!

Andy Hamiltons Charity Challenge

ANDY HAMILTON has set himself a special challenge on Sunday February 17 to raise funds for Haven House Children's Hospice, the PDC's official charity.

The former World Championship finalist will visit 16 Bravo Inns pubs in the north-west of England in one day to challenge players in each venue.

Funds will be raised for Haven House Children's Hospice through tickets sold to see Hamilton's visit, with pubs in Bolton, Accrington, Chorley, Wigan, Warrington, Leigh and Manchester all taking part. "We are very proud to be associated with Andy Hamilton and more than happy to be helping out such a good cause," said Bravo Inns Operations Director Operations Director Mark Dean. "It will be a fun day but it is very important for us to raise funds for the Haven House Children's Hospice."

Haven House Chief Executive Mike Palfreman added: "This event is a great fund raising opportunity for Haven House Children's Hospice as well as a great day out for darts fans. "Our thanks go to Andy Hamilton and everyone at Bravo Inns for raising money for us. In our tenth year it is precisely this kind of support which enables us to continue our work with life-limited children and families."

Hamilton recently paid a visit to Haven House Children's Hospice during the Ladbrokes World Darts Championship to deliver Christmas presents to some of the children receiving care at the centre. Haven House's partnership with the PDC has already seen them raise £25,000 through their Charity Challenge at the Cash Converters Players Championship Finals and Ladbrokes World Darts Championship, and an auction held at the PDC Awards Dinner at The Dorchester.

Tickets to see Andy Hamilton on Sunday February 17 are available from the following participating Bravo Inns venues:

PDC Speedy Services UK Open Q1 and 2 Entries

THE first Speedy Services UK Open Qualifiers of 2013 will feature almost 240 players at the K2 Centre in Crawley on February 23 and 24.

The events are the first on the PDC ProTour this year, as well as the opening two of eight as players bid to qualify for June's Speedy Services UK Open Televised Finals in Bolton. Saturday's tournament will feature 238 players, with 239 players having entered Sunday's £35,000 event.

The field of entries includes former World Championship finalist Mark Dudbridge as he makes his full return from shoulder and elbow surgery which he had at the end of last year. Former Lakeside Champion Ted Hankey will also make his return to action having not competed suffering a mini stroke at the William Hill Grand Slam of Darts in November. The field also includes reigning Speedy Services UK Open champion Robert Thornton as well as former Bolton winners James Wade, Roland Scholten and Raymond van Barneveld. Each event will commence at 12pm and all games will be the best of 11 legs. The draws will be conducted following the close of registration at 11am on each day, and will be unseeded draws.
