DPA Australian Grand Prix

KYLE ANDERSON'S dominance of the DPA Australian Grand Prix circuit continued as he shared the spoils with James Bailey in the latest double-header weekend.
He also reached Sunday's semi-finals before losing to eventual winner Bailey, meaning that he is now assured of qualifying as one of the three AGP Order of Merit players for August's Sydney Darts Masters event.

Anderson also leads the AGP standings by 108 points after moving to 208 points this year, more than double his closest rival Gordon Mathers, who has 100 points, and also clear of Bridge, who has totalled 92 - with the AGP Order of Merit winner also qualifying for the Ladbrokes World Darts Championship.

Anderson defeated Toke Hazel, Mitchell Turner, Jamie Rundle, Tony Shreeve and Bridge on his way to Saturday's victory.

Bridge took victory over Mathers in the semi-finals, with John Bunyard, Steve Duke Snr and Ian Dargan joining Rundle in the last eight.

Bailey's route to victory on Sunday saw him overcome Jason Higgins, Ron Holmes, Stuart Leach, Anderson and Rob Modra, who was defeated 6-2 in the final.

Modra overcame Bill Stanley, Arthur Jones, Steve Duke Jnr and Phil Whalan in the knockout stages, while Jones and Craig Prizeman were joined in the quarter-finals by Leach and Duke Snr, who reached that stage for the second successive day.

PDC PartyPoker.net European Championship- Draw

THE field for the PartyPoker.net European Championship has been finalised.

The 32-player tournament will be held from July 4-7 at the RWE Sporthalle in Muelheim, Germany, and televised live on ITV4 in the UK.

The top 16 players in the PDC Order of Merit, following Sunday's Players Championship in Crawley, qualify by right for the tournament, with the top eight seeded for the first round draw.

The event also features eight qualifiers from the ProTour Order of Merit, seven qualifiers from the European Order of Merit and Scandinavian Order of Merit leader Jani Haavisto.

While Gary Anderson drops out of the world's top 16 following the Crawley weekend, he still qualifies for the European Championship through the ProTour Order of Merit.

PDC BetVictor World Matchplay Rules Change

THE rule regarding games being won by two clear legs at the BetVictor World Matchplay has been amended ahead of the tournament's 20th staging next month.

In previous years of the tournament, a match would continue 'ad infinitum' beyond the original scheduled distance until a player achieved a two-leg lead.

However, following consultation with the event's host broadcaster Sky Sports, the PDC have amended this rule for 2013, with games now proceeding a maximum of five extra legs before a tie-break leg comes into play.

The original scheduled formats for each round will remain the same, with the new ruling only coming into play should no two-leg lead be found in the extra five legs.

The 2013 BetVictor World Matchplay format will be:
First Round - Best of 19 legs (if a match reaches 12-12, then the 25th leg will be the final and deciding leg)
Second Round - Best of 25 legs (if a match reaches 15-15, then the 31st leg will be the final and deciding leg)
Quarter-Finals - Best of 31 legs (if a match reaches 18-18, then the 37th leg will be the final and deciding leg)
Semi-Finals - Best of 33 legs (if a match reaches 19-19, then the 39th leg will be the final and deciding leg)
Final - Best of 35 legs (if a match reaches 20-20, then the 41st leg will be the final and deciding leg)

In the event of any game going to a deciding leg, there will be no re-throw for the bull, and the order of play continues unchanged. The order of throw will be decided by a bull-off pre-match in the practice room.

The field for the BetVictor World Matchplay will be confirmed following the forthcoming European Championship, which will be held from July 4-7, with the draw expected to be made on Tuesday July 9.

The BetVictor World Matchplay will be held from Saturday July 20-Sunday July 28 at the Winter Gardens in Blackpool.

The first round will be held across Saturday evening, two sessions on Sunday and the evening session on Monday July 22.

The second round will be played on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings, with the quarter-finals on Thursday and Friday evenings, the semi-finals on Saturday July 27 and the final on Sunday July 28.

MM Sports Consultants Second Signing

MM Sports Consultants who recently announced they are branching into darts management have today announced Brendan Dolan as their second player signing.

Brendan is of course well known to darts fans as 'The History Maker' for that incredible and unique 9 darter with a double start/finish in Dublin and at the recent UK Open failed to beat Phil Taylor by the narrowest of margins in a memorable last 16 match. From his achievements this season Brendan has also just forced himself into the top 16 in the Order of Merit for the first time.

Jonathan Martin, Managing Partner of MM Sports Consultants said today of the addition to the business ' We are delighted and very proud Brendan has joined the MM team as our second player and this signing demonstrates our ambition to create a strong and ...successful brand as this is just the second signing with more to be announced shortly. We have no doubt there is more to come still from Brendan over the next few months and years and we look forward to supporting him on his journey up the rankings. Brendan is also grateful for the support given to him by A180 darts over the last few years.'

WAYNE KELLY defeated Bernie Miller 6-2 to win the opening event of the PDC North American Championship Tour in Newfoundland.

Local star Kelly scooped the $2,200 first prize in the first of eight NACT events which will be played this year, coming through more than 80 players to take the title in his home town of St John's.

His triumphs on the day included a win over top Canadian youngster Shaun Narain in the last 16 and a semi-final victory over 2012 NACT Order of Merit winner Darin Young, before he defeated Ontario's Miller in the final.

Miller defeated PDC Tour Card holder Ken MacNeil in the semi-finals and also saw off former World Matchplay champion Larry Butler as he claimed the $1,400 runner-up prize.

The next PDC NACT event will be held on July 14 at the Ambassador Conference Resort in Kingston, Ontario as part of the Kingston Open weekend.
