WES NEWTON won through to the Championship League Darts Winners Group at the third time of asking as he defeated Dave Chisnall 6-4 in Thursday's Group Three final of the internet-streamed event. The Fleetwood ace had been a semi-finalist in Tuesday's Group One of the £200,000 tournament before finishing sixth in the Group Two table, but went all the way in Group Three to seal a place in October's big-money Winners Group.

Newton won four of his seven league games to finish in third place in the eight-player league table, but produced some superb finishing to defeat Kim Huybrechts 6-3 in their semi-final - hitting finishes of 150 and 126 at key moments in winning four straight legs from 3-2 down.

He then proved the stronger in the final against Chisnall, who had also competed in the previous two days of action at Crondon Park GC in Essex.

Chisnall actually led in the final, winning the opening leg on tops, but Newton hit the same bed to level and then finished 83 to punish misses from the St Helens ace to move 2-1 up.

Chisnall landed double 16 to level at two-all, but Newton - like in his semi-final - produced a killer blow as he finished 121 on the bull and tops to move 4-2 up.

The world number seven again replied, finishing 103 and double five to level, but Newton hit tops to move back in front and sealed victory by landing double six for a 14-darter.


 
Chisnall will now return to compete in Group Four after next month's partypoker.com World Grand Prix, having produced a brilliant second half of the day to reach the Play-Offs.

He had lost his opening four matches, but only dropped four legs in his final three games as he snatched fourth place ahead of Mervyn King and Kevin Painter.

Chisnall then came from 4-2 down to win 6-4 against Michael van Gerwen in his semi-final, claiming victory with a 112 finish as he punished the Dutchman for a string of missed doubles.

Van Gerwen had topped the Group Three league table with six wins from his seven games, including an outstanding 113 average in a 6-1 win over Chisnall during the league stage.

The world number two also hit a 110 average in his only league defeat as he went down to Huybrechts, who hit six 180s and a 107 average in a 6-4 triumph during a superb Championship League Darts debut.

The Belgian won his opening four games in impressive style and also won six of his seven league games, but his semi-final defeat means that he returns for Group Four next month.

King's 6-3 win over Newton in the final round of league games saw him avoid elimination at the expense of Brendan Dolan, who played some fine darts on the day but was knocked out along with Adrian Lewis.

World number three Lewis had been the runner-up in Group One, but picked up just one victory on Thursday as he was knocked out, although he claimed £5,900 prize money for his three days in the event.

The tournament will resume following the partypoker.com World Grand Prix with Group Four on Tuesday October 15, as Terry Jenkins, Peter Wright and Gary Anderson join Thursday's five survivors, with Group Five and Group Six following in the next three days of the event.

Group Seven will be held on Tuesday October 22, with Group Eight on Wednesday October 23 before the big-money Winners Group is held on Thursday October 24.

There will be one change for Group Eight, with Colin Osborne, the 2009 Championship League Darts winner, coming in to replace Vincent van der Voort, who has withdrawn from the event due to a potential clash of the Winners Group with the Host Nation Qualifier for the Dutch Darts Masters European Tour event should he have progressed through his group.


Prize money is paid at £50 per leg won in the league phase as the eight players meet each other once, before prize money rises to £100 per leg in the Play-Offs.

ANDY HAMILTON edged out Michael van Gerwen 6-5 to win a dramatic Championship League Darts Group Two final on Wednesday evening.
The Stoke ace joined World Champion Phil Taylor in progressing to next month's big-money Winners Group in dramatic fashion as he claimed triumph on the second day of the internet-streamed, £200,000 tournament.

Hamilton had won his opening three matches in Tuesday's Group One before fading away to miss out on the Play-Offs, but won five of his seven round-robin games this time around to finish in second place behind Dave Chisnall.

He then won his all-Stoke semi-final with Adrian Lewis 6-2, avenging a defeat by the same scoreline in their league meeting, as he won through to the decider, which proved to be a see-saw affair.

Hamilton took out 121, 98 and double six to win the game's opening three legs, and also missed two darts for the fourth as van Gerwen got off the mark on double six.

The Dutchman then won the next and traded 180s with Hamilton in leg six before pinning a 121 finish on double 14 to level.

Van Gerwen claimed a fourth successive leg on double four, after hitting another 180, as he moved 4-3 up, and after Hamilton levelled on double 16, he posted double ten for a 13-darter to move a leg away from victory.

Hamilton, though, finished the stronger and posted double four to force a decider in which he was first to a double before hitting the bullseye to take out 90 for the win.


Hamilton had reached the UK Open final in June before suffering a form dip over the past month, but he heads into a first round clash with Kim Huybrechts at next month's partypoker.com World Grand Prix full of confidence.

World number two van Gerwen had finished fourth on the final league table after ending the league phase with an outstanding 112 average in a win over Robert Thornton which sealed his semi-final spot.

He then averaged 105 in a 6-3 victory over Chisnall in a high-quality last four game, but fell just short in the decider.

Lewis, the Group One runner-up, will also have to return on Thursday for a third consecutive day, having won five of his league games only to lose out in his all-Stoke semi-final.

Chisnall will also compete in a third successive day, having topped the Group Two league table with five victories but been out-scored by van Gerwen in their last four contest.

Kevin Painter matched van Gerwen in winning four of his league games, but missed out on the Play-Offs on Leg Difference, while Wes Newton's three victories were enough for him to survive for a second successive day.

Robert Thornton and Justin Pipe, though, were eliminated as the Scot paid the price for three 6-5 losses on the day, while Taunton ace Pipe endured a nightmare with seven successive defeats.

Former Championship League Darts finalist Mervyn King, 2011 World Grand Prix runner-up Brendan Dolan and debutant Kim Huybrechts enter the event for Group Three.

They are joined by Group Two runner-up van Gerwen, Lewis, Chisnall, Painter and Newton as the first week of the tournament concludes at Crondon Park GC in Essex.

Last weekend already played the sixth ranking tournament for The World Soft Darts World Championship, this time in the Riviera Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, USA. The entire world of the soft tip was present, but also some Steeltip toppers like Stephen Bunting and Darryl Fitton found their way to the big money the way. The ultimate finale of this great event was between Fillipijn Lourence Ilagan and Japanese Yuji Eguchi. Ilagan again showed why he is one of the best soft tip players in the world and therefore won convincingly by the Japanese. Ilagan had been too strong for the American Ray Carver and Japanese Kenichi Ajiki earlier.

PDC PartyPoker World Grand Prix Schedule

TEN-TIME champion Phil Taylor will be in action on the opening night of the partypoker.com World Grand Prix on Monday October 7, with Michael van Gerwen to open the defence of his title on Tuesday October 8 in Dublin.

The £350,000 event will be held at Dublin's Citywest Hotel from October 7-13, with 32 stars competing for the £100,000 title live on Sky Sports HD.

With the first round split across the opening two nights, World Champion Taylor will headline the eight games on Monday October 7 as he takes on Jamie Caven in their best-of-three set contest.

Two-time champion James Wade, the 2007 and 2010 World Grand Prix winner, will play Steve Beaton, who won last weekend's German Darts Masters in Sindelfingen, while 2005 Citywest champion Colin Lloyd is up against Ronnie Baxter in the tournament's opening game.

Wes Newton, a semi-finalist last year, plays Peter Wright and Robert Thornton - who knocked out Taylor on his way to the quarter-finals - meets Paul Nicholson.

Simon Whitlock faces Northern Irish ace Michael Mansell, while Gary Anderson plays Jelle Klaasen before the opening night concludes as Irish qualifier Connie Finnan takes on two-time finalist Terry Jenkins.

Tuesday's second night of round one action is headlined by reigning champion van Gerwen's clash with three-time World Champion John Part.

Mervyn King, last year's runner-up to van Gerwen, opens the night against Wayne Jones, while Justin Pipe faces Andy Smith, Kevin Painter plays Richie Burnett and Dave Chisnall meets Ian White.

Andy Hamilton then plays Kim Huybrechts and former runner-up Raymond van Barneveld takes on World Grand Prix debutant Stuart Kellett, while two other previous finalists meet in the night's final game, as Adrian Lewis plays Brendan Dolan, the Northern Irish ace who hit the first double-start nine-darter in the event two years ago.

The second round is split across Wednesday October 9 and Thursday October 10, with the top half of the draw in action on Wednesday including a possible repeat of the 2007 final between Wade and Jenkins and a potential rematch of last year's second round win for Thornton against Taylor.

Thursday's four second round fixtures could include an all-Dutch clash with van Gerwen against van Barneveld.

The quarter-finals will be held on Friday October 11, with the semi-finals on Saturday October 12 and the final on Sunday October 13, to be preceded by the Tom Kirby Memorial Irish Matchplay final between Connie Finnan and Colin McGarry.

REIGNING CHAMPION Phil Taylor opened the 2013 Championship League Darts season with a nine-dart finish and victory in Group One of the internet-streamed event, defeating Adrian Lewis 6-2 in Tuesday's final.
The World Champion returned from a three-week break since his triumph in the Sydney Darts Masters in winning form to book his place in next month's Winners Group of the £200,000 event.

Taylor topped the league table following the eight-man round-robin phase, edging out Adrian Lewis on Leg Difference after the pair both won five of their seven games.

Taylor also hit a nine-dart finish - his third in this competition, 12th in a broadcasted event and 16th in a PDC tournament - in his league clash with Lewis, who missed double 18 for a nine-darter of his own before going on to win that showdown 6-5.

However, it was Taylor who took the spoils when they met in the final with an unstoppable display, as he followed up a 109 average in his 6-2 semi-final win with a 102 mean score for his win by the same scoreline against the European Champion.

Taylor finished 80 on tops to win the opening leg, and the pair traded 180s in the next three only for the 53-year-old to win each as he moved 4-0 up, producing some clinical finishing on double 16.

Lewis took out 143 to hit back, but missed double top for a 145 checkout in the next as Taylor hit double eight to move 5-1 up.

Lewis produced a superb 11-dart leg as he kept his hopes alive with a 180 and an 81 finish to pull back a second leg, but he was unable to land double 12 for a 144 finish in the next as Taylor stepped in to finish 76 to seal his spot in October's Winners Group.

"It's fantastic," said Taylor. "I'm pleased to get through because Wes reminded me at the start of our semi-final that he won Group One last year,

"I enjoy this tournament and especially today. I played steady darts and it was a tough challenge because I've not been practising as hard as I should do. I've taken a holiday [in Tenerife] and relaxed a bit, so I'm pleased.

"Adrian played superbly and he missed double 18 for a nine-darter against me but his energy seemed to drop a little bit during the final. I got to 4-0 up and he started to come back at me, and he showed some class."

Lewis had produced a brilliant display of his own to win his semi-final with Dave Chisnall 6-2, with the pair sharing the opening four legs before the Stoke ace hit seven perfect darts in successive legs - twice missing double 19 on a 141 finish for a nine-dart leg, settling instead for a pair of 11-darters as he went on to reach the final.

Chisnall produced some exceptional darts on the day, hitting an immense 39 180s in eight matches, while Newton joined him in reaching the last four by the narrowest of margins ahead of Andy Hamilton, who missed out on Legs Won Against Throw.

Hamilton had won his opening three games before then losing a trio of contests, and his 6-4 win over Simon Whitlock in their final league game was just not enough to see him secure a semi-final place.

Michael van Gerwen joined Hamilton in winning four games on the day only to miss out on the Play-Offs, but they return for Group Two as Whitlock and 2010 champion James Wade were eliminated.

Wade lost his opening six matches before gaining a consolation win over Lewis in his final game, paying the price for some agonisingly close missed doubles earlier in the day, while Whitlock's only victory came against the left-hander.

Justin Pipe, Robert Thornton and Kevin Painter all come in to join the five survivors from Group One in Wednesday's Group Two at Crondon Park GC in Essex.

MICHAEL VAN GERWEN will begin the defence of his partypoker.com World Grand Prix title with a clash against Canadian great John Part next month, while ten-time champion Phil Taylor drew Jamie Caven in the first round of the double-start event.
Van Gerwen claimed his first major PDC title 12 months ago when he came from 4-2 down to defeat Mervyn King 6-4 at Dublin's Citywest Hotel.

The Dutch star will open his bid to retain the title against three-time World Champion Part, a former World Grand Prix finalist, in this year's seven-day event, which is being held from October 7-13.

World Champion Phil Taylor, who has mastered the double-start format with ten previous wins since the World Grand Prix was introduced in 1998, will meet Derby's Jamie Caven in their first round game.

Taylor also has a potential second round clash with Robert Thornton, who knocked him out of last year's event in Dublin, should the Scot overcome Paul Nicholson in their opener.

World number three Adrian Lewis, July's European Champion and the 2010 World Grand Prix runner-up, drew 2011 finalist Brendan Dolan for their first round clash, with the Northern Irish star having fond memories of the event after hitting the first double-start nine-dart finish two years ago.

Number four seed Simon Whitlock has drawn Northern Ireland's Michael Mansell, while 2007 and 2010 World Grand Prix champion James Wade will meet Steve Beaton, who ended a four-year title drought on Sunday with victory in the German Darts Masters.

Number six seed Andy Hamilton takes on Kim Huybrechts, Dave Chisnall drew Ian White in a clash of two recent PDC ProTour winners, while world number eight Wes Newton has drawn in-form Peter Wright, who is close to breaking into the world's top 16.

2005 World Grand Prix champion Colin Lloyd will open up against Ronnie Baxter, while former finalist Raymond van Barneveld will take on Cheshire debutant Stuart Kellett.

Gary Anderson will face Jelle Klaasen, Ireland's Connie Finnan takes on Terry Jenkins, Kevin Painter drew Richie Burnett and Justin Pipe, the world number nine, plays Andy Smith in the first round.

Wayne Jones, whose run to the German Darts Masters semi-finals saw him qualify on the final weekend before the cut-off for the 32-player field, has draw King in the other first round tie, which will give the Wolverhampton ace a chance to avenge his loss in the last four in Sindelfingen.

The first round of the partypoker.com World Grand Prix will be split across Monday October 7 and Tuesday October 8, with eight games being played per night over the best of three sets in the quickfire, double-start format.

The second round is split across Wednesday October 9 and Thursday October 10, with the quarter-finals taking place on Friday October 11.

The semi-finals will be held on Saturday October 12, with the World Grand Prix final on Sunday October 13 to be preceded by the Tom Kirby Memorial Irish Matchplay final - which sees Finnan play Colin McGarry for the top domestic title.

PDC German Darts Masters Sindelfingen- Day 3

KEVIN PAINTER ended Dave Chisnall's bid to win a second successive European Tour event with a superb 6-1 victory in their third round clash at the German Darts Masters on Sunday, and he was joined in the quarter-finals by Simon Whitlock and James Wade.
Painter needed little over 13 minutes to see off Chisnall, who matched his opponent's 101 average but paid the price for missed doubles.

Painter kicked off the game with a 180 and led 2-0 before Chisnall got off the mark, but the world number seven missed his chance to level as the former Players Championship Finals winner took the next four legs in a row, including an 11-darter, to progress.

Painter now meets world number four Whitlock in the quarter-finals as the £100,000 heads to it's conclusion on Sunday evening, with the Australian having edged out Stuart Kellett 6-5 in their last 16 contest.

Kellett, who knocked out Raymond van Barneveld in a decider on Saturday night, hit finishes of 151 and 108 as he took Whitlock all the way, but the Australian was too strong in the final leg.

Whitlock is now the only player in the last eight who has previously won a European Tour event, following his success in the Dutch Darts Masters last October.

Wes Newton, who was a winner in Sindelfingen at Easter, saw his bid to win another title at the Glaspalast ended by a clinical James Wade display as the world number five took a 6-3 triumph.

Wade now faces Mervyn King in the quarter-finals, after the Norfolk ace edged past Peter Wright with a 14-darter in the deciding leg of their contest.

Steve Beaton powered through to the last eight for a fourth successive European Tour event with a sublime 6-1 win over Jamie Caven, hitting checkouts of 135 and 100 in the 13-minute victory.

Beaton will now meet Brendan Dolan on Sunday evening, after the Northern Irish ace defeated Robert Thornton 6-3 to progress to the last eight.

Wolverhampton's Wayne Jones continued his resurgence with a superb 6-4 win against Gary Anderson, backing up Saturday's second round win over number one seed Michael van Gerwen in brilliant fashion as the pair hit six ton-plus checkouts.

Jones finished 120 and 106 to take the opening two legs, while Anderson took out 161 as he moved 3-2 up - only for the former European Championship finalist to match that finish and take out 139 to swing the game back in his favour at 5-3.

Anderson pinned 124 to stay in the game, but Jones claimed leg ten for a last eight spot against youngster Mareno Michels, who won the all-Dutch clash with Vincent van der Voort 6-1 to reach his first PDC ranking quarter-final.

Alongside the £20,000 winner's cheque for the German Darts Masters, Sunday evening's final stages will also see the final qualifying places for next month's partypoker.com World Grand Prix decided.

Jones only needs to overcome Michels and reach the semi-finals to edge out Jamie Lewis for a qualifying place, while the Dutch youngster would earn a Dublin spot should he win the tournament, and Wade still has the opportunity to reclaim fourth place in the world rankings at the expense of Whitlock.

STEVE BEATON won his first ranking title for almost four years with a thrilling 6-5 defeat of Mervyn King in the final of the German Darts Masters on Sunday night.
The 49-year-old completed a brilliant weekend of darts in the European Tour event at the Glaspalast in Sindelfingen by taking the £20,000 first prize in dramatic fashion.

Beaton had dropped only four legs in his run to the semi-finals, whitewashing Mick Todd in the first round, defeating Paul Amos and Jamie Caven 6-2 and then seeing off Brendan Dolan 6-2 in the quarter-finals.

The former World Champion then averaged 100 in a superb performance to defeat world number four Simon Whitlock 6-3 in the semi-finals as he set up a decider against King.

King actually broke throw with a 13-darter in the final's opening leg, before Beaton levelled by punishing five misseed doubles from his opponent and then taking out 70 to lead 2-1.

King finished 116 to take the fourth, with Beaton edging back ahead with an 11-darter before being punished for a miss at tops in the sixth as the Norfolk ace levelled at three-all.

Beaton moved back ahead at 4-3 and then broke in a dramatic eighth leg, as King burst his score on 134 before seeing his opponent take out a huge 160 finish.

King responded superbly by hitting 180s in the next two legs as he sent the game into a decider, but Beaton scored 140, 95 and 100 in being first to a finish before finishing 76 on tops for the title.

 
King picked up £10,000 as the runner-up as he tasted defeat for a second time this year in a European Tour final.

He had also been in superb form throughout the weekend, kicking off Sunday's final stages with a narrow win over Peter Wright before whitewashing James Wade in the quarter-finals and seeing off Wayne Jones 6-4 in the semis.


Jones' run to the last four continued a welcome return to form for the Wolverhampton ace, whose wins over Gary Anderson - where he hit four ton-plus finishes - and Mareno Michels, with a 6-0 whitewash, helped him to snatch qualification for the partypoker.com World Grand Prix.

Whitlock also continued his superb recent form by reaching the semi-finals, defeating Stuart Kellett and Kevin Painter on Sunday before losing out to Beaton.

Whitlock's result also means that he retains fourth place in the PDC Order of Merit ahead of James Wade, who reached the quarter-finals on his return from suspension before losing out to King.

Dutch youngster Mareno Michels had won through to the quarter-finals of a PDC event for the first time before he was defeated by Jones, while Painter and Dolan also progressed to the last eight.

PDC German Darts Championship Sindelfingen- Day 2

ADRIAN LEWIS, Michael van Gerwen and Raymond van Barneveld all suffered deciding-leg defeats in a dramatic second round at the German Darts Masters on Saturday.
The three top names were joined in exiting the event by top-ten rivals Andy Hamilton and Justin Pipe on a day of upsets and comebacks at the Glaspalast in Sindelfingen.

Lewis, whose last three tournament victories have come in Germany, saw his hopes of repeating last September's German Darts Masters triumph at the venue ended as he was edged out by Kevin Painter.

Lewis hit five 180s in the game, including one in the decider only to see Painter match his maximum before punishing a pair of misses from the world number three - at double top and ten - to step in and land tops for an 11-darter in sealing the win.

Van Gerwen, the number one seed and a two-time European Tour winner this year, was edged out in another dramatic decider by Wayne Jones, the resurgent Wolverhampton ace who punished three misses for the match from the Dutchman in the final leg by overcoming his own earlier misses by hitting double 16.

Five-time World Champion Raymond van Barneveld hit a finish of 160 during his game with Stuart Kellett, the UK Masters finalist who came back from 2-0 down to claim victory in a memorable deciding leg.

Van Barneveld was first to a double as he left 146, but the Dutch star missed double 16 to complete the combination, and Northwich's Kellett took out 88 on the bull for a famous triumph.

"It's the first time I've ever played Raymond, so to beat him is unbelievable," admitted Kellett. "I was probably a bit nervous at the start of the game but I'm so glad that the bullseye went in at the end!

"I hope I can keep it going now and I believe I can go all the way, but I've got to do it now."

World number six Hamilton, meanwhile, was whitewashed by Gary Anderson as the clinical Scot set up a third round clash with Jones courtesy of his triumph.

Pipe was the other member of the world's top ten to exit on Saturday, although he lost to in-form world number seven Dave Chisnall, whose 6-3 triumph means he now faces Painter in the last 16.

World number four Simon Whitlock had fewer problems as he swept aside World Youth Champion Michael Smith 6-2, despite the youngster opening the game with a 145 checkout.

James Wade also continued his return to action in winning fashion as he defeated Paul Nicholson 6-4, and he now meets world number eight Wes Newton in the third round.

Newton, who won the European Darts Open in Sindelfingen at Easter, was a 6-5 winner against Austria's Maik Langendorf earlier on Saturday as he sneaked through a see-saw contest.

Dutch qualifiers Vincent van der Voort and Mareno Michels will also meet in the last 16 following their impressive wins on Saturday,

Van der Voort came from 3-1 down to win 6-3 against Colin Lloyd, who took out 124 and 120 early in their contest only to pay for eight missed doubles in the sixth leg, while Michels was a 6-4 winner against Kim Huybrechts after trailing the Belgian 4-2.

Robert Thornton and Brendan Dolan were impressive winners as they set up a third round clash, with the Scot whitewashing Richie Burnett and the Northern Irish ace seeing off Ian White 6-2.

Steve Beaton was another impressive performer as he followed up his first round whitewash of Mick Todd by dropping only one leg in a heavy win over Paul Amos, and the former World Champion now plays Jamie Caven on Sunday afternoon.

Caven edged out Terry Jenkins to earn his spot in the last 16, coming from 5-4 down to force a deciding leg, which he won in 14 darts.

Peter Wright and Mervyn King will meet in the other third round game after they produced strong displays to defeat Jamie Robinson and Ronnie Baxter respectively.

Sunday's third round will be followed by the culmination of the £100,000 event on in the evening session, which features the quarter-finals, semi-finals and final.

The tournament is also the last before the cut-off for places in next month's partypoker.com World Grand Prix, with van der Voort, Jones and Michels all still able to force their way into a qualifying place should they continue their progression on Sunday.

PDC German Darts Masters Sindelfingen- Day 1

MICHAEL VAN GERWEN and Adrian Lewis had to overcome some nervy moments before beginning their bids to win the German Darts Masters in Sindelfingen with victories on Friday night.
World number two Van Gerwen, a European Tour winner in Dusseldorf in May, was a 6-4 winner over World Youth Championship finalist Ricky Evans in their first round encounter at the Glaspalast.

Van Gerwen looked set to romp into the last 32 of the £100,000 event when he raced into a 4-0 lead, only for Evans to win three of the next four in hitting back to trail just 5-3.

He then won a fourth leg as his fightback continued, but van Gerwen edged the tenth leg on tops to progress to a second round clash with Wayne Jones, who saw off Ross Smith 6-4 earlier in the day.

"I think I played well early on but the first game in any tournament is always difficult so I'm pleased to win," said van Gerwen. "I had some good moments and I know I can improve, but getting through to Saturday is the most important thing.

"I'd love to win this tournament and I've been practising hard, so I hope I can show everyone my best form over the weekend."

Last year's German Darts Masters champion Lewis produced a similar display to van Gerwen before he overcame German qualifier Michael Hurtz 6-3.

European Champion Lewis led 2-0 and 5-1 before Hurtz, aided by a 136 checkout, hit back to cut the deficit to two legs, only for Lewis to land a timely 180 and double five to seal his win.

"At 5-1 up I was cruising and I took my foot off the gas a little bit, but Michael took out some good shots and the 136 was great," said Lewis. "I'm glad that I got the win because I made it tough in the end."

In-form world number seven Dave Chisnall had fewer problems as he averaged 100.20 in a 6-0 whitewash of German debutant Dirk Becker, as he began his bid to win a second successive European Tour event following his triumph in Hildesheim a fortnight ago.

Chisnall now meets world number nine Justin Pipe in Saturday's second round, with the Taunton ace coming from 2-0 down to defeat Joe Murnan 6-2.

Australian ace Simon whitlock was a 6-3 winner over Austrian qualifier as he set up a second round meeting with World Youth Champion Michael Smith, who produced a 6-4 comeback win over Colin Osborne.

Wes Newton, who won the most recent European Tour event staged at the Glaspalast over Easter, defeated Dutch youngster Ryan De Vreede 6-3, despite the qualifier hitting two ton-plus finishes, as the Fleetwood ace set up a last 32 clash with Maik Langendorf, the Austrian who held off Arron Monk's comeback from 5-0 down to win their game in a deciding leg.

World number five James Wade also edged through with a 6-5 victory over Kevin McDine as he made his return from suspension.

The left-hander made a superb start by taking a 2-0 lead with back-to-back 14-dart legs, but was punished for missed doubles as McDine moved into a 5-2 lead, only to miss nine match darts in the remaining legs as Wade sneaked through.

"It was a rollercoaster," admitted Wade. "It was hard work. Maybe Kevin deserved to win but he didn't take his chances and I hit my doubles at the right times and I did enough."

Wade now meets Paul Nicholson in the second round, with April's European Darts Open runner-up seeing off Mark Lawrence 6-3 with a strong display.

Five-time World Champion Raymond van Barneveld defeated emerging talent Josh Payne 6-4 and now plays March's UK Masters runner-up Stuart Kellett, who overcame Alan Tabern 6-3.

UK Masters champion John Part saw his hopes of winning a second European Tour title of the year dashed as he lost out 6-5 to Paul Amos, who now meets another former World Champion in Steve Beaton, who whitewashed Mick Todd with an impressive 100 average.

Former Premier League Darts champion Gary Anderson was also in good form as he edged out Andy Jenkins 6-5, despite the Portsmouth ace landing a 156 checking during a high-quality contest.

Anderson's second round opponent, Andy Hamilton, was also pushed all the way before he overcame Michael Mansell 6-5, with the Northern Irish ace coming from 3-0 down to lead 4-3 at one stage.

Jamie Caven also held off a fightback before edging an 11-leg thriller, with Steve Brown coming from 5-3 down to force a decider in their contest before the Derby thrower sealed the win with a 14-darter.

Caven now meets Terry Jenkins, who was a 6-1 winner against German debutant Peter Schoffmann, while defeats for Max Hopp and Tomas Seyler mean that the home quintet of players were all knocked out in Friday's first round.

Hopp was a 6-2 loser against Robert Thornton, with the former UK Open champion taking out 120 and 112 in their clash, while Seyler was whitewashed by Brendan Dolan.

Dolan now plays Ian White - who claimed his maiden PDC ranking title last Sunday - in the second round following the Stoke ace's narrow 6-5 defeat of Croatian qualifier Dragutin Horvath, while Thornton will meet Welsh ace Richie Burnett, who was a 6-4 comeback winner against Ireland's Willie O'Connor.

Dutch ace Vincent van der Voort took out a 141 finish during his 6-3 win over Northern Ireland's Daryl Gurney, and he now meets Colin Lloyd, the former World Matchplay champion who checked out 112 and 102 in his 6-1 win over ex-World Youth Champion James Hubbard.

Belgium's Kim Huybrechts dropped only one leg in his win over Darren Johnson as he set up a second round clash with Holland's Mareno Michels, who came from 2-0 down to win six successive legs against Andy Smith.

Strong wins for Mervyn King and Ronnie Baxter, against Michael Rasztovits and Dennis Smith respectively, mean that they will meet at the last 32 stage on Saturday, with Peter Wright and Jamie Robinson completing the second round line-up.

Wright was a narrow 6-5 winner against Jelle Klaasen, while Colchester-based qualifier Robinson defeated Mark Walsh by the same scoreline - echoing his run to the last 16 at the Glaspalast over Easter when he enjoyed two other deciding-leg wins.

The defeats for Mansell, Gurney and O'Connor mean that the qualifying race for the two places reserved for ProTour Order of Merit Qualifiers from Ireland and Northern Ireland in next month's partypoker.com World Grand Prix now cannot change, with Connie Finnan and Mansell set to compete at the Citywest Hotel.

PDC German Darts Masters- Final Qualifiers and Final Draw

GERMAN stars Max Hopp and Tomas Seyler and Dutch aces Vincent van der Voort were amongst the final qualifiers for the German Darts Trophy on Thursday night.
Hopp and Seyler were the big-name German players who won through the Host Nation Qualifier for the £100,000 tournament at the Glaspalast in Sindelfingen.

Emerging teenager Hopp had to defeat Thomas Luksch and Jyhan Artut in two 11-leg battles as he won through to compete in Friday's main event, where he replaces injured Ted Hankey as Host Nation Qualifier Five against Robert Thornton in the opening game on the big stage.

Seyler, meanwhile, dropped just two legs in each of his games against Thomas Krause and Kevin Munch as he won through to meet Brendan Dolan in the main event.

They were joined in qualifying by Michael Hurtz, who reached the second round of the German Darts Championship on his European Tour debut in Hildesheim a fortnight ago, and overcame Andree Welge and Florian Walter to win through once more, earning himself a first round clash with two-time World Champion Adrian Lewis.

Dirk Becker and Peter Schöffmann were the other qualifiers as they earned European Tour debuts in Sindelfingen, with Becker to take on recent German Darts Championship winner Dave Chisnall and Schöffmann facing Terry Jenkins.

The European Qualifier saw Dutch aces Vincent van der Voort and Jelle Klaasen and Belgium's Ronny Huybrechts continue their ever-present record in European Tour events this year.

Van der Voort whitewashed Helmoed Hoppenbrouwers and then defeated Spanish star Antonio Alcinas 6-4 as he moved through, taking the place of Phil Taylor in the draw as European Qualifier Nine with a first round clash against Daryl Gurney.

Klaasen lost only two legs in wins over Vito Clerico and Leo Hendriks as he set up a first round meeting with German Darts Championship runner-up Peter Wright, while Belgium's Huybrechts meets Kevin Painter after qualifying once again.

Austria's Mensur Suljovic will meet Simon Whitlock in the first round after he defeated Zdravko Antunovic and Leon De Geus to qualify, with fellow countryman Maik Langendorf overcoming Robert Marijanovic and Jordy Terburg as he set up an opener with former World Youth Champion Arron Monk.

PDC ET7 Revised Draw- Sindelfingen

Hankey was forced to pull out of last weekend's Players Championship events in Barnsley after being involved in a minor car accident last Friday night, in which he suffered whiplash injuries.

The two-time Lakeside Champion has not recovered sufficiently to travel to Germany and has withdrawn from the event, meaning that he misses out on a European Tour debut having won through the UK Qualifier in July.

Hankey's place in the first round draw against Robert Thornton will be taken by an additional Host Nation Qualifier, while World Champion Taylor will be replaced in the field by an additional European Qualifier, who will take on Daryl Gurney on Friday night.

The Host Nation Qualifier and European Qualifier will be held on Thursday night at the Glaspalast in Sindelfingen, with the German Darts Masters being staged at the venue from Friday September 20-Sunday September 22.

The revised draw bracket and schedule of play are below, to be updated on Thursday evening following the completion of the Qualifiers.

Although there is no live TV coverage of the German Darts Masters, the PDC hope to be able to offer selected match highlights in www.LIVEPDC.TV in due course.

Hall where they will meet the 16 qualifiers from the play-off stages. The Ladies

seeds will be seeded in the play-off stages of the competition.

  

PDC Championship League Darts Groups

THE groups for the 2013 Championship League Darts have been confirmed, with reigning champion Phil Taylor to begin the defence of his title in Group One on Tuesday September 24.

The internet-streamed event will see play across nine days, with the eight individual Group Winners going on to contest the title in the Winners Group on Thursday October 24.

Each group features eight players, who qualify based on their ranking on the PDC Order of Merit at Monday September 16.

Play in each group is initially in a round-robin format, with players facing each other once over the best of 11 legs, with two points gained per win plus prize money of £50 per leg won, before the top four players progress to contest the semi-finals and final, which feature £100 per leg won.

On each day, the Group Winner progresses to the Winners Group and the bottom two players from the final league table are eliminated, with the next three players from the PDC Order of Merit entering for the next group.

Prize money in the Winners Group doubles to £100 per leg won in the group stage and £200 per leg won in the semi-finals and final, with a further £10,000 prize money paid to the overall champion, £5,000 to the runner-up and £2,500 to the Winners Group semi-finalists - giving over £200,000 prize money on offer in the event.

The world's top eight players, led by World Champion and reigning Championship League Darts title holder Phil Taylor, Premier League Darts champion Michael van Gerwen and European Champion Adrian Lewis, will contest Group One of the 2013 Championship League Darts.

They are joined by Simon Whitlock, the 2012 Championship League Darts runner-up, 2010 champion James Wade, UK Open finalist Andy Hamilton and 2013 European Tour champions Dave Chisnall and Wes Newton.

With Raymond van Barneveld opting not to play in the tournament, Group Two on Wednesday September 25 will see Justin Pipe, Robert Thornton and Kevin Painter enter the fray, with 2008 runner-up Mervyn King, Brendan Dolan and debutant Kim Huybrechts entering in Group Three on Thursday September 26.

The tournament will resume on Tuesday October 15 for Group Four as Terry Jenkins, Peter Wright and Gary Anderson come in, with 2011 finalist Paul Nicholson, Ronnie Baxter and Mark Webster entering in Group Five.

Group Six on Thursday October 17 will see Colin Lloyd, Ian White and Jamie Caven join the action, Group Seven on Tuesday October 22 features former World Champions Richie Burnett, John Part an Steve Beaton and Group Eight on Wednesday October 23 welcomes Andy Smith, Vincent van der Voort and Mark Walsh.

The tournament will then conclude with the Winners Group on Thursday October 24.

Championship League Darts will be streamed live online, and will be available worldwide for all subscribers to www.LIVEPDC.TV, as well as through a series of bookmakers' websites.
