PDC German Darts Masters Qualifiers




TED HANKEY qualified for a European Tour event in 2013 for the first time after a successfully coming through the UK Qualifier for £100,000 German Darts Masters at the Barnsley Metrodome, on Friday evening.

The two-time World Champion produced an impressive display as he dropped just two legs to Campbell Jackson before whitewashing Mark Cox to confirm his place in Sindelfingen, in September.

Ross Smith, who hit a fantastic nine-darter in the Gibraltar Darts Trophy two weeks ago, came through thanks a 6-4 victory over Wales’ Jamie Lewis in the decider.

Smith was joined by two other highly rated young prospects in the shape of Josh Payne and Ricky Evans. Payne overcame Andrew Gilding and Michael Barnard by 6-3 margins while Evans edged out John Bowles 6-5 in the decider.

Former World Championship semi-finalist Andy Jenkins produced some impressive form as he dropped just one leg to Sam Hill before comfortably beating Jim Walker 6-0 to seal his place in Germany.

Bristol’s Steve Brown edged out Keith Rooney in a tense deciding-leg to qualify and he was joined by Dennis Smith and Alan Tabern who successfully came through their two matches.

Daryl Gurney confirmed his qualification thanks to victories over Reece Robinson and Mark Jones and he was joined by two other Irishman in the shape of William O’Connor and Michael Mansell.

Kevin McDine qualified thanks to a brace of 6-4 wins over Adrian Gray and Nick Fullwell while St.Helens ace Michael Smith also progressed with the aid of 6-4 triumphs against Shaun Griffiths and Steve West.

Former World Youth Champion James Hubbard, defeated Prakash Jiwa in a deciding-leg before booking his place in September’s event with a 6-1 victory over Ricky Sudale, while London carpet fitter Paul Amos ended Joe Cullen’s hopes with a 6-1 win in the decider.

Mark Lawrence qualified for a European Tour event for the first time after overcoming two-time World Champion Dennis Priestley 6-5 before edging out Norwich’s Darren Webster 6-4.

Lawrence was joined by fellow Yorkshireman Darren Johnson who defeated Kevin Dowling 6-5 in his first match before a 6-2 win over Paul Barham confirmed his spot in the £100,000 event.

Colchester’s Jamie Robinson and Nottinghamshire’s Mick Todd came through their two matches to qualify while Joe Murnan ended Mark Dudbridge hopes with a fine 6-4 win in their deciding clash.

The seventh European Tour event of the year will be held from September 20-22 in Sindelfingen, Germany, with the remaining eight places in the field to be decided on the eve of the tournament when the Host Nation Qualifier will be held in Sindelfingen.
