Parry wins Sydney Darts Masters

WARREN PARRY has won the DPNZ Qualifier to earn a place in August's Sydney Darts Masters at Luna Park.

Parry, a three-time qualifier for the Ladbrokes World Darts Championship as the 2005, 2007 and 2009 Oceanic Masters Champion, edged out Leon Twose 6-5 in the final of the qualifying event.

He also saw off Mark Cleaver 5-2 in the semi-finals and was a narrow 5-4 winner over Craig Caldwell - who represented New Zealand in the World Cup of Darts in February - in the quarter-finals, and also overcame Bill Fergus in the event.

Twose had defeated Rod Reid, Rex Harper and Mike Day to reach the final, but narrowly missed out on winning a spot in the Sydney Darts Masters event from August 29-31 at Luna Park, live on FOX SPORTS.

"I'm over the moon," said Parry. "To be given the opportunity again to compete against the best players in the world is a dream come true - and to do it in our part of the world is something I never thought would happen.

"It's great for darts in this region."

The Sydney Darts Masters sees the top eight from the PDC Order of Merit drawn against eight qualifiers for the first round, with Parry joining Australian World Cup representaive Paul Nicholson as confirmed stars in the event.

The top three players from the DPA Australian Grand Prix rankings next month will be joined by three Qualifiers from the qualifying events to be held in Warilla on August 25, 26 and 27.
