This weekend sees the start of the World Matchplay from the awesome venue of the Winter Gardens in Blackpool. The Winter Gardens is a Players favourite and also a fans Favourite. Games arnt played here, they are fought for. The top 32 Gladiators take to the stage and battle for the top Honour's.

First match of the tournament are 2 best mates, T Jenkins v A Smith. These two players always seem to draw each other in the early stages of the matchplay. They often have good games, with Terry coming out on top. This year Andy has been throwing some good darts and the Bull has been off form a little. Could it be the Piemans Turn for glory? Also we could be in for another instalment of 'Terry and June' from the duo, If you haven't seen the past two episodes click the links below..

Part 1:  http://youtu.be/knnO9yiFcWc
Part 2:  http://youtu.be/ONygykS1tGQ

Next match on is Raymond van Barneveld v Mensur Suljovic. Barney has been Barney of late, hes still tinkering with his set up and throw well, but not has well has he can do. Mensur on the other hand is a very stead floor player. Hes been doing well of late, reaching floor semis. He is a player you should never underestimate because if he gets the chance he will take it.

James Wade v John Part is the next match. Its always a good scrap with these two. Part at his snarling best could beat the Machine and Wade hasn't been in the best form of late. This could be the match of the night.

Last game of the night is Simon Whitlock v Jelle Klaasen. The Wizard had a good showing at the Europeans a couple of weeks ago and Jelle has been fighting back to his old form over the past 6 months.

Sunday Afternoon sees Justin Pipe v Mark Webster, Kevin Painter v Jamie Lewis and Brendan Dolan v Steve Beaton begin there challenge for Matchplay greatness.

The pick of Sunday afternoons games is Kim Huybrechts v Peter Wright. Snakebite has come from nowhere over the past 6 months and has been beating some big names on the way. He has been using some new darts and they are doing the biz for him so far. Kim has been going about business in his own quiet way this year and is due a good run in a major. Could be the match of the afternoon.

Sunday evening sees the World number 1 take to the stage and also the number 2 hot on his heels. The first two games Mervyn King v Gary Anderson and Dave Chisnall v Paul Nicholson will be true Tungsten flinging battles. All four of the players are capable of winning the Matchplay but who has got the nerves and guile to get through.

Taylor v Kellett is the next battle to hit the stage. The Power has swapped back to his Phase5's and seems to have fallen back in to where he left off before he started messing with his set-up. Kellett He another rock steady player who is due a good run in a major. Could this be the one?

Last match is MvG v Jaws. Jaws is back! nearly has good has before, but he is back. This could be the right time to come up against MvG too because hes out of sorts at the moment. MvG hasn't been the all conquering of the past few tournaments and i starting to show the strain of being on top. Plus other players have stepped up there game and are threatening to knock the Green Machine of his perch.

The first round concludes on Monday night with a Past UK Open champion, a two times World Champion and a back to back tour winner take to the stage.

Robert Thornton v Ian White is the first game on. Both players are very similar. The way they throw, the way they don't know how to give up and the winning mentality. From the first dart this will be a cracker.

Next on stage is Wes Newton v Jamie Caven. We haven't seen must of the Warrior since the Premier League, but hes has been in the background doing what he has to, to keep his ranking. Jabba on the other hand has been making big waves. His new book was a success and a bloody good read. He did the double at a Wigan floor event and had a good run in the past couple of tournaments. The guy is on fire there's know doubting that and he is my dark horse for the Matchplay.

The new European champ is on next against the other Huybrecht brother. Ronnie has been chucking some good Tungsten lately, including taking out the Power in the Euro's. Jackpot has come back to form with a huge bang, its also put the entire Field in a state of shock. We all knew the old Jackpot was there, somewhere. If anyone can take the Matchplay by storm its him!

The last round one match is Andy Hamilton v Ronnie Baxter. Both players are in good form of late and it will be a good closing game for round one.

Of course has well as the darts, we have the Walk-on ladies back. Gracing the stage in Blackpool are the dynamic duo of Daniella Allfree and Sammi Marsh. Both ladies have been busy of late, Travelling around Europe for the love of darts. Its always a pleasure seeing these two back on our screens, they make any tournament more enjoyable to watch.
