Philippine star Ronald Briones won his second Stage of DARTSLIVE’s SOFT DARTS WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP 2013 – THE WORLD tournament on Saturday beating American Ray Carver 3-2 in a decider.
Briones had a tough draw and needed to beat compatriot Lourence Ilagan in the earlier rounds, then top Japanese player Kei Usami in the quarter final, followed by the 2011 SOFT TIP WORLD CHAMPION Paul Lim in the semi’s, before narrowly beating Carver in the final.
“I feel on top of the World, I’m so happy to have won here in Seoul, I had a lot of matches that were 3-2 today, I feel I am very lucky to have won a stage again,” said Briones after winning the match, which was for the first time being held in Korea.
Ray Carver, who has made previous appearances in the PDC World Championships in 2003, 2006 and 2008, said, “I didn't do quite enough today, I felt we both played well but in the final leg of cricket I missed my chances, I hit triple 19 with my first dart and I should have stayed on 19’s, I wasted 2 darts on the twenty as I only hit singles. But hats off to Ronald who played a great match.”
With over £300,000 in prize money the world’s biggest soft tip tournament, the SOFT DARTS WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP 2013 THE WORLD is spread over 8 stages. Stage 5 moves to Shanghai, China on 25th August, the competition then shifts to Las Vegas, USA on 21st September for Stage 6.
