PDC CLD Group7- Results

RICHIE BURNETT claimed a remarkable victory in Group Seven of Championship League Darts on Tuesday, edging to a 6-5 win over Gary Anderson in the final of the internet-streamed event.
The Welsh ace was amongst a trio of former World Champions who came into the tournament for the seventh of eight groups, and showed his class by topping the league table following the round-robin stage.

He won five of his seven league games, with a brilliant 6-0 whitewash of Paul Nicholson in the final round seeing him knock his opponent out of the top four places as well as seal top spot above Steve Beaton.

Burnett then enjoyed a 6-3 semi-final win over Kim Huybrechts as he won through to the final, where he edged out Anderson in a see-saw thriller.

Burnett took the final's first two legs to lead, before Anderson finished 78 to reply - only for a 116 finish to put the Welsh ace 3-1 up.

Anderson then finished double nine and 68 to level, but missed tops in the seventh as Burnett hit the same bed to move back in front, before taking out 61 on double eight to move to the brink of victory at 5-3.

Anderson took out double 18 to pull back to 5-4, and when Burnett missed two match darts at double 19 in the next, the Scot hit double eight to send the game into a deciding leg.

Anderson opened with scores of 140 and 180 and was first to a finish, but missed five darts for the match at double 14 and seven, and Burnett pulled back to finish 106 on tops to snatch victory.

Beaton had ended the day level with Burnett with five victories, but lost out to Anderson 6-3 in their semi-final as the Scot moved into the decider.

Anderson was one of four players to finish the day with four wins, and was joined by Huybrechts in reaching the semi-finals, with Peter Wright and Paul Nicholson edged out on Leg Difference.

Three-time World Champion John Part and Jamie Caven, a double ranking event winner this year, were both eliminated though in Group Seven, winning one game apiece during a gruelling day.

Huybrechts, who entered the event in Group Three, will appear in his sixth group of the season on Wednesday in the last-chance Group Eight, while Wright and Anderson will both play for a fifth day as they bid to join Burnett in the Winners Group.

Beaton and Paul Nicholson will also return to Crondon Park GC in Essex to compete in Group Eight, alongside 2009 champion Colin Osborne, Andy Smith and Mark Walsh.

The day's champion will return on Thursday to compete in the big-money Winners Group, alongside Phil Taylor, Andy Hamilton, Wes Newton, Terry Jenkins, Michael van Gerwen, Ian White and Burnett.
