PDC Dutch Darts Masters- Day 3

REIGNING Dutch Darts Masters champion Simon Whitlock remains on course to retain the European Tour title in Veldhoven after winning through to the quarter-finals on Sunday afternoon, alongside Dutch favourite Michael van Gerwen and in-form stars Peter Wright and Kim Huybrechts.
Australian ace Whitlock overcame Andy Hamilton 6-2 with a strong performance as he set up a quarter-final on Sunday night with Jamie Caven, as the remaining eight players compete to take the £20,000 first prize.

The Australian took out 120 and also had six perfect darts of a possible nine-darter as he moved into a 4-1 lead against Hamilton, who took out 72 to reply but was unable to prevent Whitlock's progression to the last eight.

Caven secured his place in the last eight with a 6-4 victory over Swindon's Mark Cox in the third round, while world number two van Gerwen swept aside Michael Barnard with a 6-1 triumph.

The Dutch favourite will now play Wes Newton in the quarter-finals, after the Fleetwood ace hit a third successive ton-plus average of the event in his 6-4 win over Mervyn King.

The in-form duo of Belgium's Kim Huybrechts and Scottish ace Peter Wright were also 6-4 winners, against Michael Mansell and Ronnie Baxter respectively, as they set up a tantalising quarter-final clash.

Finland's Jarkko Komula secured himself both a quarter-final place - his first-ever on the PDC ProTour - and a qualifying place in the Ladbrokes World Darts Championship with a fine 6-4 victory against world number five James Wade.

Komula now plays Brendan Dolan, who progressed to the last eight with a 6-2 victory over youngster David Pallett.

Jamie Caven 6-4 Mark Cox
Simon Whitlock 6-2 Andy Hamilton

KIM HUYBRECHTS won the biggest title of his career as he claimed the £20,000 first prize in the Dutch Darts Masters with a 6-3 victory over Brendan Dolan in Sunday's final at the NH Hotel Koningshof.
The Belgian star followed up last week's victory in the John McEvoy Gold Dart Classic Players Championship in Killarney by claiming his third ranking title with a brilliant display in Holland.

Huybrechts - who also reached the Championship League Darts Winners Group this week - had won through to Sunday's final stages with wins over Dean Winstanley and Wayne Jones, before defeating Michael Mansell 6-4 in the third round.

He then edged past Peter Wright 6-5 in the quarter-finals and was brilliant in defeating Michael van Gerwen, the number one seed and local favourite, with a 6-3 victory in the semi-finals.

Huybrechts, though, saved his best display for the final as he recorded the same scoreline against Dolan, averaging 105.90 and hitting a series of key 180s as he picked up the win.

Dolan gave as good as he got, sharing the first two four legs of the final before breaking throw in the fifth on double 16 to lead 3-2.

Huybrechts, though, broke back immediately on double 18, after his opponent missed the same double, and he then hit 180s in the next two legs to leave 44 and 47 as he hit a brace of double 16s to lead 5-3.

He then opened the ninth leg with a fourth maximum of the game, and hit double 16 once more as he claimed the victory, dropping to his knees as he celebrated an emotional victory.

Huybrechts dedicated the title to the memory of his father, who had passed away last December but remained in the 27-year-old's thoughts throughout Sunday's final stages.

Antwerp-based Huybrechts also had plenty of support in the Veldhoven crowd, and added: "It's only 40 minutes for me so it's like a home event, so to win the tournament is perfect."

Dolan had seen off youngster David Pallett, Finland's Jarkko Komula and reigning champion Simon Whitlock in Sunday's final stages, and admitted: "I'm not too disappointed to lose.

Whitlock had lifted the title 12 months ago in Nuland, but came up short in the semi-finals this time around as he went down 6-3 to Dolan, having won his quarter-final with Jamie Caven by the same scoreline earlier in the evening.

World number two van Gerwen also missed out in the last four as he sought a third European Tour win of the year, being knocked out 6-3 by Huybrechts after he had won a high-quality quarter-final with Newton in the same manner.

Finland's Komula's run to the quarter-finals, which included a memorable win over world number five James Wade in Sunday afternoon's third round, will see him qualify for the Ladbrokes World Darts Championship as he picked up £3,000 prize money.

In-form Peter Wright also won through to the last eight, but was denied in a deciding leg by Huybrechts as the Belgian marched into the final.

Runs to the last 16 for Pallett, Mansell, Swindon's Mark Cox and Essex thrower Michael Barnard aided their challenges to qualify for the World Championship through the ProTour Order of Merit, and they were joined in the third round by top 16 stars Mervyn King and Andy Hamilton.

PDC Dutch Darts Masters Day 2- Results

TOP TEN STARS Raymond van Barneveld, Adrian Lewis and Dave Chisnall were all knocked out of the Dutch Darts Masters on Saturday, as Michael van Gerwen continued his bid to win a third European Tour title of 2013 with a second round victory over Ross Smith.
Dutch ace van Barneveld was sent packing from the event with a 6-3 reverse to Peter Wright, whose impressive form continued as he averaged 99 in silencing the home crowd.

Van Barneveld shared the game's first six legs, but missed his chance to lead in the seventh as Wright hit double one before pulling clear with a 14-dart leg and sealing the win with double 16.

World number three Adrian Lewis was also knocked out, as he lost 6-4 to Stoke rival Andy Hamilton, who hit back from 4-2 down to win four successive legs and progress to the Last 16.

World Grand Prix finalist Dave Chisnall was another second round casualty, as his bid to win a second European Tour title of the year was ended by Shropshire youngster David Pallett, who hit four 180s in a nerveless 6-3 victory.

Reigning Dutch Darts Masters champion Simon Whitlock found himself in danger of joining the big-name victims when he went 3-1 down to Mark Webster, but the Welshman missed five darts at double 16 to win the fifth leg as the Australian pounced to take the next five legs and progress.

World number two Michael van Gerwen joined Whitlock in Sunday's third round with a 6-3 victory over Ross Smith, as he looks to win his third European Tour title of the year, having been victorious in Dusseldorf and Wiener Neustadt earlier in 2013.

Van Gerwen will open Sunday's decisive final stages - with the third round in the afternoon session and the quarter-finals, semi-finals and final in the evening session - when he plays Michael Barnard, who was a 6-4 winner against Kevin Painter.

World number five James Wade impressed with a 101.56 average as he saw off Northern Ireland's Daryl Gurney 6-1, and he now faces Finland's Jarkko Komula, who won by the same scoreline against Paul Nicholson.

Mervyn King, a two-time European Tour runner-up this year, won 6-4 against Colin Lloyd and will now play world number eight Wes Newton, who impressed in his 6-4 win over Ronny Huybrechts.

Kim Huybrechts will represent the Belgian family in Sunday's final stages after he came from 5-2 down to defeat Wayne Jones 6-5 in their clash, and he now plays Northern Irish ace Michael Mansell, who overcame Holland's Gino Vos 6-2.

Ronnie Baxter's narrow 6-5 win over Ian White means that he now takes on Wright, while Pallett will take on Brendan Dolan, who was a 6-5 winner against Gary Anderson.

Jamie Caven edged to a 6-5 win against Joe Cullen, who missed the bull for a 170 finish in the deciding leg of their second round contest, and the Derby ace will now meet Mark Cox, who had seen Campbell Jackson come from 5-0 down to level in their game before he regained his composure to take victory.

PDC Dutch Darts Masters Day 1- Results

HOME favourites Michael van Gerwen and Raymond van Barneveld both overcame scares to win through to the second round of the Dutch Darts Masters on Friday, as the European Tour event in Veldhoven kicked off.

Van Gerwen, the world number two, bounced back from Thursday's defeat in the Championship League Darts Winners Group final to Phil Taylor by edging to a narrow victory over Vincent van der Voort in their first round clash in the £100,000 event.

Van der Voort had won through Thursday night's qualifier before finding out that he would be facing his practice partner and room-mate, and van Gerwen laid aside their friendship by opening with legs of 13 and 14 darts to lead 2-0.

Van der Voort replied to level, hitting a 14-darter of his own, and though van Gerwen took out 96 and a 13-darter to lead 4-2, the Purmerend thrower again hit back to level, taking out 80 to square the match at four-all.

Van der Voort then took the ninth to lead, but van Gerwen forced a deciding leg on double eight before winning a dramatic decider on tops, after his opponent hit a 180 only to miss the bull, double eight and double four to claim victory himself.

Five-time World Champion van Barneveld also had to endure some nervous moments before seeing off Andrew Gilding 6-3 in their encounter.

Gilding led 1-0 and also levelled the game at two-all, only to miss three darts to lead in the fifth leg as van Barneveld hit the front.

The Den Haag favourite then finished a 14-darter in moving 5-2 up, and though Gilding took the eighth leg, van Barneveld showed his killer instinct by hitting a 180 and a 121 finish in a 12-darter to secure victory.

Dutch youngster Gino Vos joined the duo in winning through to the second round on home soil at the NH Hotel Koningshof, defeating Richie Burnett 6-4 as he held off the Welsh ace's fightback from 5-1 down to claim a last 32 spot.

Home hope Jelle Klaasen was edged out 6-5 by Ross Smith, who now goes on to face van Gerwen, while Jerry Hendriks was defeated 6-2 by Colin Lloyd and debutant Davy Verkooijen lost 6-2 to Andy Hamilton.

Belgium's Kim Huybrechts, who lives around 45 minutes from the Veldhoven venue, impressed with a 102.80 average in his 6-2 win over Dean Winstanley, and he is joined in the last 32 by brother Ronny, who whitewashed former World Youth Champion Arron Monk with a fine performance.

Defending Dutch Darts Masters champion Simon Whitlock began his bid to retain the £20,000 title with a 6-1 win over Darren Johnson, pulling clear with legs of 13, 14 and 11 darts to progress to the second round.

Both Adrian Lewis and Wes Newton averaged 101 and dropped only one leg apiece in their excellent victories over Germany's Michael Hurtz and Mark Dudbridge respectively, as they secured second round places.

Peter Wright was another player to impress, as he hit a 160 finish in coming from 3-1 down against John Bowles to take a 6-3 triumph, earning him a Saturday night clash with van Barneveld in Veldhoven.

Paul Nicholson, last year's Dutch Darts Masters runner-up, began his bid this time around with a 6-4 win over Peter Hudson, while Gary Anderson overcame German Andree Welge 6-4 and Jamie Caven enjoyed a 6-2 win against Austrian World Cup ace Maik Langendorf.

Three-time World Champion John Part, who won March's UK Masters European Tour event, was the highest-profile casualty as he went down 6-3 to Northern Ireland's Campbell Jackson, who now plays Swindon's Mark Cox, another player to knock out a seed with his 6-1 defeat of Andy Smith.

Another former World Champion, Steve Beaton, went out to an emerging Northern Irish prospect as he lost 6-4 to Daryl Gurney, while world number nine Justin Pipe was eliminated in a deciding leg by Finland's Jarkko Komula.

Brendan Dolan and Michael Mansell completed a quartet of Northern Irish stars in the second round with their wins over qualifiers Davyd Venken and Tonci Restovic respectively, while Shropshire youngster David Pallett enjoyed a 6-4 victory against Mark Walsh.

World number five James Wade was a 6-4 winner against James Richardson, while fellow left-hander Mark Webster prevailed in a deciding leg against German qualifier Jyhan Artut.

Dave Chisnall, another European Tour winner this year, began his bid for another title with a whitewash of German teenager Max Hopp, while Kevin Painter, Ronnie Baxter and Ian White dropped only one leg in their victories.

Joe Cullen knocked out Terry Jenkins with a 6-1 scoreline, with Michael Barnard and Mervyn King and Michael Barnard were 6-3 winners against Dan Russell and Stuart Kellett respectively.

PDC Dutch Dart Masters Update

ROBERT THORNTON has withdrawn from the Dutch Darts Masters European Tour event, while the remaining places in the tournament have been completed in Thursday night's European Qualifier in Veldhoven.
The Scottish star has pulled out of the £100,000 event for personal family reasons, with his place in Friday's first round against Michael Mansell to be directly taken by the ninth European Qualifier, who was Croatia's Tonci Restovic.

The nine European Qualifiers are accompanied by four Host Nation Qualifiers to complete the field for the year's final European Tour event, which will be held from Friday October 25-Sunday October 27 at the NH Hotel Koningshof in Veldhoven.

Vincent van der Voort's success in winning through the Host Nation Qualifier has set up a tasty all-Dutch first round tie with Michael van Gerwen on Friday night.

Jerry Hendriks' progression sees him now meet Colin Lloyd, Gino Vos meets Richie Burnett and debutant Davy Verkooijen plays Andy Hamilton.

European Champion Adrian Lewis will play German qualifier Michael Hurtz, while Dave Chisnall takes on German teenager Max Hopp in their first round game.

Finland's Jarkko Komula won through to play Justin Pipe, Belgian pair Ronny Huybrechts and Davyd Venken meet Arron Monk and Brendan Dolan, while Austrian Maik Langendorf faces Jamie Caven.

German pair Andree Welge and Jyhan Artut completed the European Qualifiers, facing Gary Anderson and Mark Webster respectively in the first round.

The tournament will be available live online FREE worldwide through the OfficialPDC YouTube Channel - www.youtube.com/OfficialPDC.

PDC CLD Final- Results

PHIL TAYLOR won a third successive Championship League Darts title with a superb 6-3 victory over Michael van Gerwen in the Winners Group Final at Crondon Park GC in Essex.
The World Champion continued his dominance of the year's big tournaments by winning the £10,000 first prize, a further £9,450 in prize money and a fourth title in six years of the internet-streamed event with another amazing day of days.

Taylor had earned his place in Thursday's Winners Group by taking victory in Group One of the tournament last night, hitting a nine-dart finish on that day.

After seeing his rival do battle in a further seven groups, Taylor returned to Crondon Park for the Winners Group, where he topped the league table with six victories from his seven matches, with only van Gerwen defeating the world number one in the round-robin stage.

Taylor initially picked up three 6-5 victories, over Andy Hamilton, Kim Huybrechts and Ian White, and then defeated Wes Newton 6-4 before bouncing back from his loss to the Dutchman with a narrow defeat of Terry Jenkins - in a high-quality contest - and a 6-3 win over Richie Burnett.

Taylor then dropped only one leg in a semi-final romp against Newton, where he averaged 106 and took out a 141 checkout in sealing his place in the final against van Gerwen, where he avenged his earlier defeat in stunning style with a 107 average.

Taylor won the final's first five legs without reply in a darting masterclass, opening with a 13-darter and then breaking throw with a 127 finish on the bullseye, after van Gerwen had scored 174 to leave 32.

Taylor then took out 92 on the bull and left the Dutch ace again waiting on 32 in leg four as he took out 86, while double ten in leg five moved him to the brink of glory.

Van Gerwen, though, hit a 180 in a 14-dart leg to get off the mark, matched the feat with a 67 finish in the seventh leg and continued the fightback by taking out 116 for a 12-darter in pulling back to 5-3.

Taylor, though, stepped up another gear to hit two 140s in the ninth leg, before taking out 81 for an 11-darter to complete another fine triumph - adding to the World Championship, UK Open, World Matchplay and World Grand Prix titles he has claimed already in 2013.

Van Gerwen took home the £5,000 runner-up prize as well as £5,100 prize money from the Winners Group - but having taken until Group Five to qualify ended the event as the highest money-earner with £23,400.

His win over Newton in the final round of matches sealed second place in the league table as he won five of his seven league games, and though he avened his 6-0 whitewash to Burnett in the league phase with a 6-2 semi-final triumph, he fell just short of another major title.

Burnett's brilliant 12-minute whitewash of the Dutchman was the Welsh star's highlight of a fine day, as he followed up Tuesday's Group Seven triumph by winning four league games to finish in third place in the league table.

Burnett took home £3,600 from the Winners Group as well as £2,500 for reaching the semi-finals alongside Newton, who won an additional £3,900 on the day as he finished fourth.

Stoke's Ian White and Belgian Kim Huybrechts both won three matches but missed out on the Play-Offs, with Andy Hamilton taking two victories and Terry Jenkins picking up his only victory by overcoming White in the final round of matches to end his opponent's semi-final hopes.

The tournament featured a record four nine-darters, with Taylor's Group One effort followed by perfect legs for van Gerwen, Huybrechts and Mervyn King, while a total of £177,450 prize money was paid out to the 29 competing players.

PDC CLD Group 8- Results

KIM HUYBRECHTS claimed the final place in the Championship League Darts Winners Group with an amazing comeback from 4-0 down to win the Group Eight final against Peter Wright on Wednesday. The Belgian star will now compete alongside the likes of Phil Taylor, Michael van Gerwen and Andy Hamilton in Thursday's big-money Winners Group, where a £10,000 first prize is on offer alongside £100 per leg in the league phase and £200 per leg in the Play-Offs.

Huybrechts, though, came close to missing out on winning through in a keenly contested Group Eight at Crondon Park GC in Essex, which saw him competing in a sixth day of the event.
Huybrechts edged out Gary Anderson on leg difference to claim the fourth semi-final spot, with a 6-3 win over Mark Walsh in his final league match, coupled with Anderson's defeat to Steve Beaton, proving crucial in keeping his hopes alive.

Huybrechts then performed superbly to defeat table-topper Paul Nicholson 6-3 in the semi-finals, breaking the deadlock from three-all by taking the last three legs without reply, and produced a stunning comeback in the final.

Wright, competing in his fifth day of the event this year, took the final's first four legs without reply as he punished some shaky doubling from the Belgian to lead 4-0.
Huybrechts, though, fired his challenge with an 11-darter in leg five, before finishing 67 in the next, and he then hit a 177 to set up double 16 as he cut the gap to one leg.

A 14-darter then saw him level the game, and when Wright missed a dart at double 16 in leg nine, Huybrechts followed an earlier 180 by taking out 108 on tops to lead 5-4.

Huybrechts added a 177 score in the tenth leg, with Wright missing the bull for a 132 finish which would have sent the match into a decider as the Belgian returned to hit double four to end an amazing day.

The triumph continues a superb spell for the Belgian, who hit a nine-darter earlier in this event and won a Players Championship in Killarney last Sunday, and he is determined to claim the £10,000 first prize in Thursday's Winners Group.

Wright reached three finals in his five days competing in the event, losing to Michael van Gerwen and Ian White in Group Five and Group Six, and again fell just short of sealing a Winners Group spot.

The Scot won four of his seven league games on the day and raced to a 6-1 semi-final triumph against Andy Smith before running out of steam in the decider - although £12,650 prize money for the event softens the blow of his exit.

Nicholson, appearing in his fourth successive group, finished at the top of the league table following the round-robin stage but suffered a second semi-final defeat.

Andy Smith, in his first day of the year, had won his opening six league matches, but lost out to Nicholson in their final match, with the 6-1 reverse also costing him top spot, before he was defeated in the semi-finals by Wright.

Scottish star Anderson was narrowly denied a semi-final place on Leg Difference to Huybrechts as he competed in a fifth successive day of the tournament.

Steve Beaton eventually joined Anderson and Huybrechts on three wins, losing his opening four matches before finishing with a flourish, but again missed out on the Play-Offs on Leg Difference.

2009 Championship League Darts winner Colin Osborne won just two of his matches on the day as he missed out on the chance to win back the title, while Mark Walsh picked up just one victory from his seven games.

Thursday's Winners Group sees the eight group winners from the internet-streamed event return to Crondon Park GC in Essex, with prize money doubling to £100 per leg in the league phase and £200 per leg in the Play-Offs.

In addition, there is a £10,000 first prize, with the runner-up taking home £5,000 and the semi-finalists £2,500, while the finalists will also qualify for next month's William Hill Grand Slam of Darts - giving an additional incentive for Terry Jenkins, Ian White and Richie Burnett.

That trio are joined by Phil Taylor, Michael van Gerwen, Andy Hamilton, Wes Newton and Huybrechts for the Winners Group, with play commencing at 10.30am and broadcast live online through www.LIVEPDC.TV and the websites listed below.

With every dart thrown broadcast live on BBC TV, and tickets selling out in record time months in advance, darts fans across the planet are looking forward to the crowning of new BDO World Champions, and the titles have never looked more open than in any other year.

Stephen Bunting, the number 1 ranked BDO player and winner of the 2013 Winmau World Masters, will go in as strong favourite, but he has yet to claim the title and faces stiff competition for the crown from defending World Champion Scott Waites and previous champions Christian Kist and Martin Adams.

The Women’s field sees 16 of the top players competing, and reigning champion Anastasia Dobromyslova bids to retain her title for the third year in a row. BDO Chairperson Sue Williams said “Players try for years to qualify for Lakeside, as it represents the pinnacle of their career. No matter how experienced a player may be, the stage, the tournament, the venue and the history make it one of the hardest events in world darts to win."

Sue remembers watching many household names playing some of the most memorable and life changing matches, and she mused "Can you imagine what it’s like to get up there on that stage, so close to the fans and how intimidating it must be every time you go out to try and win this amazing Championship, and then finally the elation and joy at winning?" Williams continued “The players, fans, Bob Potter and all at Lakeside, BBC, Winmau and the various sponsors (such as, Holsten and Jackpotjoy) that have supported the tournament over the years have done so much in making darts the global sport that it is today and we’re so happy that these valued partners have enabled the staging of the biggest Lakeside World Professional that the BDO has ever hosted".

Introducing 8 qualifiers from overseas (which includes the USA’s Jim Widmayer and Japan’s Shimizu Hiroaki) is an important development and highlights the BDO’s relentless passion for growing the world-wide sport of darts at every level.

The BDO Board of Directors look forward to welcoming all players, viewers and fans to the 2014 Lakeside World Professionals and wish all the players taking part the very best of luck.

PDC Masters Schedule

PHIL TAYLOR will take on Terry Jenkins in the first round of The Masters on Friday November 1, while Scottish pair Robert Thornton and Peter Wright face tough tests as the inaugural tournament kicks off at the Royal Highland Centre.

The Masters features the top 16 players from the PDC Order of Merit, with Scottish duo Thornton and Wright set to appear on home soil in Edinburgh.

Scotland's former Premier League Darts champion Gary Anderson, however, missed out on qualification, having needed to win one of last weekend's Players Championship tournaments in Killarney to return to the world's top 16.

World Champion Taylor, the world number one, takes on 16th seed Terry Jenkins when the tournament begins with the eight first round matches on Friday November 1 in one bumper session of darts.

The pair's last meeting came in July's World Matchplay, when Taylor edged to a 14-12 victory in an epic contest in Blackpool before going on to win a record-breaking sixth successive title in the event.

World number two Michael van Gerwen, the reigning Premier League Darts champion and World Championship runner-up, takes on West Lothian-born Wright, who has moved up to a career-high 15th in the rankings this year.

Ayrshire's Thornton, the 2012 UK Open champion, is seeded 11th for the tournament and plays Andy Hamilton, the three-time major finalist and world number six.

European Champion Adrian Lewis, the world number three, comes up against Belgium's Kim Huybrechts, Australian star Simon Whitlock will take on Mervyn King and seven-time major winner James Wade plays Kevin Painter.

Recent World Grand Prix finalist Dave Chisnall will meet five-time World Champion Raymond van Barneveld, while Fleetwood's two-time major finalist Wes Newton plays emerging Justin Pipe.

"The confirmation of the top 16 and the draw for The Masters has really set pulses racing," said PDC Chairman Barry Hearn. "This is a mouth-watering line-up which promises to showcase the very best of our sport.

"To see such huge match-ups, such as Phil Taylor against Terry Jenkins, Michael van Gerwen up against in-form Peter Wright and Adrian Lewis playing Kim Huybrechts, who won a ProTour event last week, in the first round shows just how competitive The Masters will be.

"We've seen great interest in The Masters and it's been a joy to see the excitement which bringing a major darts event to Edinburgh has justifiably created, and the countdown is now firmly underway!"

Following Friday's first round action, the quarter-finals will take place on Saturday night, including the potential for an all-Dutch clash between van Gerwen and van Barneveld.

The semi-finals and final will then complete the weekend's action on Sunday evening, with all three games taking place in one session to determine the winner of the £50,000 inaugural Masters title.

RICHIE BURNETT claimed a remarkable victory in Group Seven of Championship League Darts on Tuesday, edging to a 6-5 win over Gary Anderson in the final of the internet-streamed event.
The Welsh ace was amongst a trio of former World Champions who came into the tournament for the seventh of eight groups, and showed his class by topping the league table following the round-robin stage.

He won five of his seven league games, with a brilliant 6-0 whitewash of Paul Nicholson in the final round seeing him knock his opponent out of the top four places as well as seal top spot above Steve Beaton.

Burnett then enjoyed a 6-3 semi-final win over Kim Huybrechts as he won through to the final, where he edged out Anderson in a see-saw thriller.

Burnett took the final's first two legs to lead, before Anderson finished 78 to reply - only for a 116 finish to put the Welsh ace 3-1 up.

Anderson then finished double nine and 68 to level, but missed tops in the seventh as Burnett hit the same bed to move back in front, before taking out 61 on double eight to move to the brink of victory at 5-3.

Anderson took out double 18 to pull back to 5-4, and when Burnett missed two match darts at double 19 in the next, the Scot hit double eight to send the game into a deciding leg.

Anderson opened with scores of 140 and 180 and was first to a finish, but missed five darts for the match at double 14 and seven, and Burnett pulled back to finish 106 on tops to snatch victory.

Beaton had ended the day level with Burnett with five victories, but lost out to Anderson 6-3 in their semi-final as the Scot moved into the decider.

Anderson was one of four players to finish the day with four wins, and was joined by Huybrechts in reaching the semi-finals, with Peter Wright and Paul Nicholson edged out on Leg Difference.

Three-time World Champion John Part and Jamie Caven, a double ranking event winner this year, were both eliminated though in Group Seven, winning one game apiece during a gruelling day.

Huybrechts, who entered the event in Group Three, will appear in his sixth group of the season on Wednesday in the last-chance Group Eight, while Wright and Anderson will both play for a fifth day as they bid to join Burnett in the Winners Group.

Beaton and Paul Nicholson will also return to Crondon Park GC in Essex to compete in Group Eight, alongside 2009 champion Colin Osborne, Andy Smith and Mark Walsh.

The day's champion will return on Thursday to compete in the big-money Winners Group, alongside Phil Taylor, Andy Hamilton, Wes Newton, Terry Jenkins, Michael van Gerwen, Ian White and Burnett.

KIM HUYBRECHTS claimed his second PDC ProTour title of 2013 after destroying Kevin Painter with a 6-0 whitewash win in the final of the John McEvoy Gold Dart Classic Trophy at the INEC in Killarney on Sunday.
The 27-year-old completed a fabulous week by claiming the £10,000 title in the Killarney Darts Festival, having landing a nine-dart finish in Championship League Darts, where he is still in the running for a place in the big-money Winners Group next Thursday.

Huybrechts, who won a UK Open Qualifier six months ago to claim his maiden PDC title, began his run to the final with a trio of 6-2 victories, over Robert Kelly, Marty Moreland and former World Champion Mark Webster as he reached the last 16.

The Belgian, who reached the final of this year’s World Cup of Darts alongside brother Ronny, then defeated Northern Ireland’s Daryl Gurney 6-4 before a comfortable 6-1 win over Darren Webster secured his place in the last four.

In the semi-finals, Huybrechts ended Steve Beaton’s hopes with a 6-2 win in a performance which included a 158 checkout, as he sealed a place in his third ProTour final of the year.

The Belgian ace faced Kevin Painter in the decider and established an early 2-0 lead, which included a fantastic 170 checkout to complete a 12-darter in the second leg.

The momentum continued for Huybrechts as he won the next two legs to move 4-0 up before hitting back-to-back 14-dart finishes to win 6-0 and claim the £10,000 top prize.

World number 12 Painter started his run to the final with wins Mark Forman and Neil O’Donoghue before securing a 6-3 victory over former world number one Colin Lloyd to reach the last 16 stage.

The Rugby-based thrower then recorded impressive wins over Robert Thornton and Wes Newton to reach the last four, where he overcame Michael Smith 6-3 with the aid of six maximums and a 110 checkout to win the match.

That put Painter through to his first PDC ranking final since claiming the 2011 Players Championship Finals title, but his hopes of winning the £10,000 first prize were destroyed by a whitewash defeat to the Belgian.

Beaton, who won the German Darts Masters last month, continued his good form with a run to the last four on Sunday.

The 1996 World Champion came through two tough battles against Joey Palfreyman and Johnny Haines to reach the last 32, where he breezed past Vincent van der Voort by a 6-1 scoreline.

Beaton then overcame impressive Newport youngster David Pallett in a deciding leg before seeing off Gary Anderson to reach the last four, where fell to Huybrechts.

Michael Smith, the PDC World Youth Champion, produced his best performance on the PDC ProTour since April as he reached his second semi-final of 2013.

The 23-year-old from St Helens defeated John Part, Arron Monk and Peter Wright en route to the semi-finals, but his hopes of claiming a third PDC title were ended by a 6-3 loss to Painter.

Friday's Irish Masters winner Darren Webster, who also reached the semi-finals of Saturday’s Gleneagle Hotel Players Championship, continued his good form on Sunday with a run to the last eight before falling victim to Huybrechts.

The Norwich man’s performances over the weekend saw him take away £4,000 in ranking prize moneym which boosts his chances of qualifying for the Ladbrokes World Darts Championship at Alexandra Palace in December.

Wes Newton - who hit a nine-dart finish 24 hours earlier - and Gary Anderson reached the quarter-finals along with Peter Wright, who confirmed his place in the inaugural Masters tournament taking place in Edinburgh in two weeks time.

Robert Thornton, who took the £10,000 first prize on Saturday after defeating Jamie Caven 6-5 in the final, lost at the last 16 stage 24 hours later to Painter by a 6-4 margin.
