PDC McCoys Premier League- Week 13 Preview

The McCoys Premier league rolls into the home of the Beatles this Thursday. Liverpool has given us some cracking darts in the past. Will this week be the same? Hamilton and Wade are the 2 players that play twice this week.

May 2 - The Echo Arena, Liverpool

Michael van Gerwen v Andy Hamilton
James Wade v Simon Whitlock
Robert Thornton v Phil Taylor
Raymond van Barneveld v Adrian Lewis
James Wade v Andy Hamilton

First match on is MvG v Hamilton. Van Gerwen won again at the weekend in Wigan for the UK Open qualifiers and was impressive to say the least. This looks on paper a very one sided match, with the Hammer unable to qualify for the play-offs. Mighty Mike is unstoppable at the moment but shows the odd blip when on stage. Hamilton wont give up we know that and with nothing to fight for he will be relaxed and up for the match, so an upset might happen.

Second on is Wade against Whitlock. Both players are in form and love a good scrap. The Machine was quoted has saying some negative things about RvB last week although when they asked Barney about it he said they weren't true, and just to prove it he beat Wade fair and Square. Wade has had a little dip in form but sits fourth in the table and needs a win to climb back up. Whitlock could still make it to the play-offs but will need others to drop points to make it. It should be a good match with both fighting for major points.

Thornton v Taylor is next on the stage. The Thorn seems to love playing Taylor at the moment ever since the UK Open final last year he isn't scared of the Power. He always brings his A game and its a good scrap for all to enjoy. Thornton sits one point behind Wade at the moment and has 3 games left to play. He could literally be the Thorn in someones side by the end of next week. Taylor had two wins last week and is looking good to make it, although a lot of people had put him out a couple of weeks ago.

RvB against Lewis is the next match on. Barney is in joint second at the moment, and beat Wade last week in a One sided match. Lewis is out, he cant qualify now and after the weekend he has just had in Wigan he is feeling good about it. His Form has suddenly returned and is looking like the Jackpot of old. He could give Barney a really good game and cause him all sorts of problems this Thursday. Can RvB hold it all together and push to the end?

Last match on is Wade v Hamilton. 2 Fighters. 2 Players who rarely give up. This should be a cracker. The Hammer will be relaxed with no pressure and Wade depending how his first match went, might have it all to fight for. Both players will be tired and emotions will be high so who wins will be anybodies guess. But it will be a true tungsten tussle to the end.

5-0 - Taylor's amazing run continues as he takes out 108 to win a fifth successive leg.

5-2 - The pair trade 180s, and when Taylor misses three darts at double 16 and eight, Lewis steps in to land double ten again.
6-2 - Taylor's double trouble continues as he misses one dart at tops, but Lewis' four missed darts at double 18 give him the chance to return and hit double ten to ensure at least a draw.
7-2 - Taylor posts double 16 with his third dart to seal the victory, further denting Lewis' Play-Off hopes and ending the game with an average of 105.24.

6-3 - Hamilton takes the ninth leg against the throw to break throw and keep his hopes alive.
6-4 - Hamilton fires in a 180, and although he initially misses two darts at double 18, Thornton's missed bullseye for the match allows him back to hit double 14.

Raymond van Barneveld v James Wade

0-0 - Raymond van Barneveld will throw first

An Interview With The Undertaker Kevin Thomas

This is an interview with Kevin 'The Undertaker' Thomas

Kevin is a proud Welshman and has played in both the BDO and PDC. He has represented Wales at international level and played at the 2011 WDF World cup. In the same year he also played in the World Masters and got down to the last 24.

1. When did you start playing darts? When did it start getting ‘serious’?

I started playing darts at 6 years of age after watching my Dad play. I started playing from 14 in pub leagues and haven't looked back since.

2. What darts do you use?

I use Harrows original Eric Bristow 24 gram 90% tungsten darts.

3. Who do you play your non PDC darts for?

Up until recently I've played County darts for Glamorgan men's A team and Internationally for Wales men. I've reached 28 caps so far with 15 wins.

4. What darting ambitions do you have?

To be world champion and to progress as high up in The PDC rankings as possible and to reach major televised tournaments.

5. What’s your favourite tournament?

Both PDC and BDO world championships and the PDC UK Open.

6. Describe your throw in 3 words.

Natural, smooth and rock solid.

7. What was the highlight of 2012?

Reaching Welsh Ranking No1 and reaching the televised stages of The Winmau World Masters 2011.

8. What do you do to relax away from darts?

Chill out watching films, browsing the Internet on my iPad mini and i like to go swimming when I can.

9. Tell me something we don’t know about you?

I used to be a gymnast in School and have a talent for memorising film scripts.

10. Do you have any darts weaknesses?

I wouldn't say so but if I had to pick one it would probably be to practise more.

11. Whats your walk-on tune and If not that what else would you walk on tune be?

The Undertaker's theme tune from WWE, as my nickname is The Undertaker and I'm a big WWE Taker fan.

12. Do you take much notice of the social media side of darts i.e.: Twitter, Face book etc

Yes, I'm constantly on Facebook and Twitter but prefer Facebook.

13. When your not playing do you enjoy watching any other players play? Who?

No, I hate watching other players play as I'd rather be involved myself.

14. Do you have any darting heroes?

Not really but I've grown up liking Eric Bristow, Raymond Barneveld, Richie Burnett, Steve Beaton, Martin Adams and Tony O'Shea.

15. Have you always wanted to be a darts pro? If you hadn’t of been that what would you be doing now?

Yes, it's my dream and I will do anything to achieve it.

16. Do you enjoy the practise side of darts?

I've never been a big practise person. I can literally hit form after a few throws. I'm a big believer in its not the amount of practise you do, it's the quality of darts you are playing and getting your mind correctly focused.

17. Do you have any funny printable darts stories you can tell me?

One time when I played and beat Ross Montgomery in a Wales v Scotland British Internationals match, I celebrated with a Booker T spinarooni (google/youtube it if you don't know what is is) on stage. A lot of people found it amusing and some even keep daring me to do it even now.

18. If you could change the outcome of a match you have played in what would it be?

There have been many matches I should have won but thrown away but I would definitely change my televised appearance at The 2011 Winmau World Masters. After the BDO/ESPN messed up and changed my schedule, they only ended up showing two of my legs instead of the whole match live. I was upset and disappointed in this and had to play a lot later in the evening. The occasion slightly got to me and I ended up ill before I went on stage, throwing up and sweating buckets. I was completely drained in the match and ended up losing 2-0. I felt as if I let myself down in this match as I played superb all day to get there. I've matured a lot since then and I'm now currently on The PDC tour and already qualified for the televised UK open in June. I also hit my first competitive 9 darts finish at The UK Open Qualifiers and I'm steadily progressing up the order of merit rankings and with more experience and exposure in these surroundings, it will hopefully all slot into place.

A big thank you to Kevin for doing this interview it was a pleasure.

PDC McCoys Premier League- Week 12 Preview

Its week 12 in the McCoys premier league already and this week it steams into the city of Birmingham. This week sees Taylor, Lewis and Thornton all playing twice.

April 25 - The NIA, Birmingham

Phil Taylor v Adrian Lewis
Simon Whitlock v Michael van Gerwen
Robert Thornton v Andy Hamilton
Raymond van Barneveld v James Wade
Phil Taylor v Simon Whitlock
Adrian Lewis v Robert Thornton

The first match on stage is Taylor against Lewis. The master v the Padawan. These two are old friends and training partners, but on stage that's all forgotten. The Power had a good week last week with a win and a draw. Jackpot on the other hand suffered a loss at the hands of MvG. He had his chances to take the win but didn't convert, Leaving him all but on the Premier league scrap heap. There is no way back for Lewis now barring he wins all his games 7-0. Taylor enjoys making his young Protege suffer on stage and this week will be no different.

Whitlock v van Gerwen is next on. The Wizard is starting to hit a bit of form at long last, its just unfortunate that he comes up against MvG who is in his prime. Both players had wins last week so this should be a good match. It will be high scoring and high checkouts for sure. With how the recent form has gone this should be a win for MvG but don't count Whitlock out, hes at his best when he has something to prove.

Third match on is Thornton v Hamilton. There is only one point separating these players and its going to go down to the wire. Both need to win matches to make the play-offs and Thornton has a game in hand over the Hammer. The Thorn has been a Revelation in this years Premier League, he isn't afraid of anybody and always puts up a good fight. Hamilton is.... well Hamilton. He has more grit than John Wayne and just never knows when to give up. It will be a battle of the toughest and only the strong willed will make it out the other side.

The match of the night could be Barneveld against Wade. These pair never let us down when they play each other. One point also splits them with Wade taking second behind MvG at the moment. Barney had a loss and a draw last week although he should of won against Taylor, So what will his mind set be. Wade on the other hand has played 12 and won 7 and is showing form of old. If these two are on it from the off it will be a Tungsten tussle of titanic proportions. I can tell you now it wont be a draw, both need a win and will be going for it!

Taylor v Whitlock should be a cracker to. The Wizard has a 'Barney' Complex with the Power in the past but seems to be getting over that now. Can he beat Taylor? We shall have to wait and see. Taylor is a strange creature at the moment. Before this Premier League he was always a guaranteed win, But this year things have changed. I honestly believe that he has had enough of the travelling around now, but just doesn't know how to give it up and a professional player friend of mine said the same thing. Is this Phil's last year at the top before he slowly bows out? Its looking that way.

Last match of the night is Lewis against Thornton. The second match of the night for both players. Jackpot has I've said is all but out, only 2 wins tonight could give him a very slim chance, but he is playing the Thorn and the Thorn doesn't give many Chances. Lewis is the other player out of sorts. His form has evaporated and is really struggling to find the wins in any tournament this year. The premier League is a tough nut to crack, if it grabs you, you will suffer the side effects from it for a couple of years. I think Jackpot has been grabbed. Look at Past Premier League players.... Webster, Painter to name 2. All have gone through huge dips in form and some are only just striking back. Lewis needs to break free and it has to be this week or he is DOOMED!!!!

Your Walk-On Girls this week see the return of the dynamic duo of Sammi Marsh and Daniella Allfree. Sammi has had one hell of a week so far, after running the London Marathon on Sunday in a time of  5 hours 20 mins, with a bad knee too i might add. Walking these trouble makers on should be a breeze, and keeping control of the others will be Daniella, who is more then capable. Its always a good night when these two ladies are at the darts, so sit back, relax and enjoy!

World Cup Pair Win Gibralter places

WORLD CUP pair Dylan Duo and Dyson Parody are amongst the four Home Nation Qualifiers for June's Gibraltar Darts Trophy event.

The £100,000 European Tour event will be the first PDC ranking tournament held in Gibraltar since 2010, when Colin Lloyd and Denis Ovens shared Players Championship victories.

This year's Gibraltar Darts Trophy will be held from June 28-30 in the Tercentenary Sports Hall at the Victoria Stadium, with 64 players competing for the £20,000 first prize.

There will be 32 automatic qualifiers from the Rolling One-Year Order of Merit, who will be joined by 20 UK Qualifiers, eight European Qualifiers and four Home Nation Qualifiers.

The Home Nation Qualifier, organised by the Gibraltar Darts Association, has been staged and saw Dylan Duo and Dyson Parody, who teamed up to represent their country in the Betfair World Cup of Darts in January.

They were joined in qualifying by Manuel Vilerio and George Federico.
