Winmau and BDO Announce the Wolverhampton Open
Winmau, the British Darts Organisation and the Wolverhampton Sports Arena are delighted to announce the inaugural Winmau BDO Wolverhampton Open. This new event has a prize fund of £3,000 (with £1,000 to the winner) and will take place at The Winmau Dart Centre in the Wolverhampton Sports Arena on Saturday 24th August.
In addition to the lucrative purse, the winner will be entered into the 2013 Winmau World Masters and 2014 Lakeside World Championship Play-offs.
Dharam Jagpal of the Wolverhampton Sports Arena said “We’ve had an amazing success story with our Winmau Darts Centre Monday Night League and we wanted to continue our expansion of darts by introducing a major tournament in the BDO calendar. We have just entered into a partnership with Winmau that sees them sponsor our Darts Centre, the Monday Night League and this fantastic new tournament. We are looking to run more leagues and competitions and to take darts to another level with our partnership with Winmau and the BDO.”
Ian Flack, Sales and Marketing Director of Winmau, added “Dharam’s passion and knowledge of our sport is incredible, and he has built up a fantastic following in the Midlands. We are proud to be associated with him and the Sports Arena and thank them for the superb opportunities they have provided for the players. The Winmau BDO Wolverhampton Open is sure to prove a big hit with players from around the country, and it wouldn’t be possible without the support of Dharam, the Wolverhampton Sports Arena the BDO and the other event sponsors Marston’s brewery.”
Sue Williams, Chairperson of the BDO, said “Winmau and the BDO have always worked closely together and it is great that this relationship has spawned a new event that provides our players with the opportunity to win some superb prize money. Dharam and all at the Sports Arena should be commended for their unwavering support of darts and for their continual growth in this area.”
