RAYMOND VAN BARNEVELD cruised into the second round of the Ladbrokes World Darts Championship with a straight sets win over Jamie Lewis on Sunday night, as number seven seed Dave Chisnall was knocked out at Alexandra Palace by John Henderson.
Dutch star van Barneveld, the five-time World Champion, lost only three legs as he swept aside emerging Welsh youngster Lewis 3-0 in their opener in the £1 million tournament.
Van Barneveld opened the clash with a 180 before taking the first set 3-1, and repeated the scoreline in the next two before he completed a fine performance with a 141 finish to book his last 16 spot.
The number ten seed now plays Jamie Caven in the second round on Friday night, after the Derby ace knocked out another Dutchman, Jelle Klaasen, with a 3-1 win on Sunday night.
Caven raced through the first two sets without Klaasen winning a leg, hitting a spectacular 158 finish in the process, and though the former Lakeside Champion took the third set without reply, the Derby ace took the fourth 3-1 to seal his last 32 spot.
Number seven seed Dave Chisnall, though, became the biggest casualty so far in the tournament as he lost out 3-2 to John Henderson in a fifth set tie-break, despite hitting 11 180s in a see-saw contest.
Scottish ace Henderson took out 122 on the bull to win the deciding leg of a tight first set, before taking the second without reply - including a showpiece 132 finish of bullseye, bullseye and double 16 - to move 2-0 up.
He also led 2-1 in the third set as he closed on victory, only for Chisnall to level the set and take out 121 in the decider to hit back, before he soared through the fourth set 3-0 to square the contest.
Chisnall's charge continued as he moved to the brink of victory at 2-1 in the fifth set, only to miss a total of four match darts in two legs as Henderson hit back to win the deciding set 5-3 and claim his first Alexandra Palace win.
Northern Ireland's Brendan Dolan was the night's other winner, as he saw off Derby's Colin Osborne in straight sets.
Osborne had come into the tournament a week earlier as a replacement for the Philippines Qualifier Edward Santos, and defeated Denmark's Dennis Lindskjold 4-1 in their preliminary round game, but was unable to upset the number 15 seed.
Dolan took out 118 to win the opening leg before winning the set 3-1, and after edging the second in a deciding leg - which featured a 167 checkout from the Northern Irish ace - he came from a leg down in the third with three successive legs to seal a second round tie with Gary Anderson.
The first round continues on Monday night, when Belgian brothers Kim and Ronny Huybrechts meet on the sport's biggest stage in what will be the latter's World Championship debut.
Former World Champion Steve Beaton will play the winner of the preliminary round tie between South Africa's Devon Petersen and Malaysia's Mohammed Latif Sapup, while Ronnie Baxter faces World Youth Championship finalist Ricky Evans and Mervyn King takes on top American Darin Young.

JOHN HENDERSON came through an incredible five-set battle to send world number seven Dave Chisnall crashing out of the 2014 Ladbrokes World Darts Championship.
Henderson took the first two sets and was within touching distance of a straight sets win before Chisnall came roaring back to win the next five legs and force a deciding set.
The number seven seed held the initiative in the decider, but let four darts to win the match slip away and Henderson held his nerve to claim a famous victory.
Henderson won the opening two legs of the match only for Chisnall to reply and claim the next two, and the number seven seed looked on course to take the set in the deciding leg.
However, Henderson stunned his opponent with a brilliant 122 checkout to take the first set before doubling his advantage by taking the second without reply, including a party-piece 132 checkout of two bullseyes and double 16.
Chisnall was 2-1 down in the third set and a leg away from going out but found double 18 to his liking as he hit the bed in five successive legs to force a deciding set.
The fifth set proved to be a dramatic affair as Chisnall missed three chances to win the match in the fourth leg and was off-target with another match dart, at the bullseye, in the sixth.
Those errors proved to be expensive for the World Grand Prix finalist as Henderson won the decider 5-3 in the tie-breaker to progress to the second round.

0-2 - The world number seven hits a 180 for the fifth leg running, but five missed darts at tops allow the Scotsman take his opportunity in style as he takes a fabulous 132 checkout courtesy of two perfect shots at the bullseye followed by double 16 to stun his opponent.
0-3 - Henderson is off-target with one shot at double 18 for the set, but Chisnall fails with two more attempts at double top and Henderson lands double nine to leave the number seed in trouble at two sets down.
Third Set
1-0 - Chisnall hits double four with a pressure third dart to make positive opening to set three.
1-1 - Henderson records his third 180 of the game and goes on to take out 82 on tops for an excellent 12-darter.
1-2 - Chisnall hits another maximum but a missed attempt at double 18 gives Henderson a shot at 80 which he takes out on double ten to go a leg away from victory.
2-2 - Both players struggle to find their range before Chisnall breaks the tension with a 150 score to leave 36, which he converts at the first attempt on double 18.
3-2 - Chisnall shows his class under pressure as he hits consecutive 140s before landing double 18 once again, for a 121 finish.
Fourth Set
1-0 - Chisnall continues the form of the previous set with scores of 180, 100, 140 and hitting double 18 for a third leg running for a 13-dart finish to break throw.
2-0 - The World Grand Prix runner-up finds the double 18 bed once again to convert a 99 finish after Henderson had hit a 180.
3-0 - Chisnall lands a ninth 180 before adding scores of 140 and 145 and hitting double 18 for a fifth leg in a row to complete a superb 11-darter.
Fifth Set
1-0 - Chisnall fires in his tenth maximum and takes a 70 finish on double top after Henderson missed a dart at the bullseye for a 121 checkout.
1-1 - The Scotsman stops the rot as he takes out 61 in just two-darts to win his first leg in seven.
2-1 - Chisnall takes out 50 on his faithful double 18 to move a leg away from a remarkable comeback victory.
2-2 - An 11th maximum puts Chisnall in command of the leg, but three darts to win the match go begging and the Scotsman hits double ten.
3-2 - Henderson hits a 180 but fails with three chances to break throw and Chisnall holds his nerve to hit double top with an accurate third dart.

COLIN OSBORNE took advantage of his late call-up into the 2014 Ladbrokes World Darts Championship to defeat Denmark's Dennis Lindskjold with a 4-1 win in their preliminary round clash at Alexandra Palace
Lindskjold, who defeated Finland's impressive Jani Haavisto to earn his place this year's competition, made a winning start to the match as he took the opening leg on double one after both players had missed a host of doubles.
Osborne, who came into the competition following the withdrawal of the Philippines Qualifier Edward Santos, gained confidence with an excellent 122 finish, completed on the bullseye, to win the second leg before taking out 73 for a 2-1 lead.
The former UK Open finalist hit double ten to win the fourth leg and posted double 16 in the next to confirm a first round clash against Brendan Dolan later on Sunday evening.

RAYMOND VAN BARNEVELD strolled into the last 32 of the 2014 Ladbrokes World Darts Championship with a 3-0 victory over Jamie Lewis, ending the game with an impressive average of 98.56.
The highly rated Welshman hit just three of 14 attempts at doubles as van Barneveld capitalised on numerous occasions to move into the second round after just 28 minutes on stage.
Lewis, making his second appearance on the Alexandra Palace stage won the opening leg of the match before van Barneveld took command of the game as he won six of the next seven legs to establish a 2-0 advantage.
That left the Welshman a mountain to climb, and despite producing better form in the third set he could not stop van Barneveld sealing a straight sets victory, completing the match with a superb 141 checkout.

BRENDAN DOLAN sealed a place in the second round of the Ladbrokes World Darts Championship with a 3-0 win over Colin Osborne at Alexandra Palace thanks to some excellent finishing as he hit nine out of 14 attempts at doubles.
Dolan, who lost to Raymond van Barneveld in the third round 12 months ago, won the first set 3-1 in an opener which featured a 118 finish from the Northern Irish ace in the first leg of the match.
Osborne, who defeated Denmark's Dennis Lindskjold earlier in the evening to secure a first round encounter with the number 15 seed, established a 2-1 lead in the second set before Dolan hit a 167 checkout in the fourth leg before winning the set with an excellent 13-darter.
That gave Dolan total command of the contest and he wrapped up the match on double six to set up a last 32 clash against Scotland’s Gary Anderson on Sunday.

JAMIE CAVEN ended the hopes of 2006 Lakeside Champion Jelle Klaasen with a 3-1 victory in the first round of the 2014 Ladbrokes World Darts Championship on Sunday evening.
The world number 23, who won back-to-back Players Championship titles in May, will now face five-time World Champion Raymond van Barneveld on Friday for a place in the third round of the competition.
The opening set saw Caven take advantage of missed doubles from his opponent to claim a 1-0 lead before taking the second set without reply, which featured a fabulous 158 checkout.
The third set started with Klaasen still yet to win a leg, but he overturned that negative in style as he won the third set in a blink of an eye to reduce the gap.
However, Caven regained his authority of the game as he took the first two legs of set four, which included a 115 finish, before wrapping up the contest in the fourth leg.

1-0 - Klaasen is guilty of four misses darts at double five and Caven edges the first leg by hitting the same bed.
