Afternoon Session
Mark Webster made a flying start to the European Darts Trophy with a 6-1 win over Steve Maish, with the Welshman taking five successive legs to sweep into the second round.

Former World Youth Champion Arron Monk won the opening game on stage two with a 6-3 win over Alex Roy in a high-quality match which saw both players averaging over 100 for most of the contest.

Qualifier Jamie Robinson caused an upset by coming from 5-2 down to defeat Richie Burnett 6-5, with the Welshman being punished for missing match darts in the game's final two legs.

Ross Smith produced an impressive performance to see off World Youth Champion James Hubbard 6-1, taking the game's first four legs without reply as he moved into the second round.

Kim Huybrechts edged out Steve Hine 6-5 in a thriller to book his second round spot, coming from 3-1 down to level before taking the deciding leg.
"I've not had too many good results recently and these are the types of games which I have been losing so it's a massive win for my confidence," said Huybrechts. "It was a great game and
I'm really pleased to be through."

Austrian qualifier Mensur Suljovic was another 6-5 winner as he came from 3-1 down against Scott Rand to edge through.

Justin Pipe dropped just one leg as he saw off Co Stompe 6-1, with the Taunton ace winning the first five legs before the Dutch ace took out 110 to get off the mark, but he was unable to continue the fightback.

Andy Smith was a 6-2 winner against Swedish qualifier Magnus Caris, winning the game's final three legs without reply to progress.

Mervyn King swept past Dutch qualifier Leon De Geus with the day's first whitewash as he set up a second round clash with Andy Smith.

Jamie Caven came from 2-0 down against Andy Johnson to win his place in Sunday's second round with a 6-3 triumph.

Ronnie Baxter hit five 180s in a fine display as he defeated Kevin Dowling 6-3 to move into the last 32.

Darren Webster edged out Kurt Van De Rijck in a deciding leg to book his place in the second round, following up an earlier 116 checkout with a 102 game shot in the final leg.

Connie Finnan set up a second round clash with Ronnie Baxter by defeating Steve Beaton 6-4. The Irishman took out 155 as he won the first four legs, with Beaton hitting back to trail only 5-4 at one stage - hitting a 145 checkout to save the game - before Finnan landed tops for the win.

Terry Jenkins edged out Tony West in the deciding leg of a close battle, with neither player ever able to move more than one leg ahead as the lead changed hands twice, with the seven-time major finalist hitting a 130 finish early in the contest but suffering with missed doubles before pinning tops at the first attempt to win the final leg.

Colin Lloyd moved into the second round with a 6-3 win over Belgian Davyd Venken, who shared the first four legs before the former world number one took the next three to lead 5-2. Venken won the eighth, but Lloyd pinned double top to complete the win.

Paul Nicholson came from 3-0 down to win 6-5 against Ronny Huybrechts in a see-saw game. Nicholson took five straight legs to move 5-3 up - hitting a 116 finish to move a leg away from victory before the Belgian hit back to level with a 106 finish, but Nicholson posted a 180 as he edged the decider.

Evening Session
Max Hopp kicked off Saturday's evening session with a hugely popular 6-1 win over Croatian qualifier Dragutin Horvath, a European Tour debutant. German 16-year-old won the first five legs without reply before Horvath hit back, but double ten put the home favourite into Sunday's second round.

Brendan Dolan set up a second round clash with Jamie Robinson courtesy of a 6-4 win against John Bowles. Dolan came from a leg down to lead 3-1, hitting a 117 finish in the process, before Bowles hit back to level, but with the pair tied at four-all it was the Northern Irish ace who took the next two legs for victory.

Michael Smith sent number one seed Dave Chisnall crashing out of the event with a brilliant 6-1 victory, averaging 103.13. After Smith took the opener, Chisnall finished 104 to level but he had no answer to five successive legs from the in-form PDC Unicorn World Youth Championship finalist, who hit three 13-darters as he moved 5-1 up before sealing the win with a 136 checkout for a 12-darter.

Joe Cullen came from 5-3 down to edge out Mark Hylton in their first round contest. Hylton finished 124 in holding an early 2-1 lead, and though Cullen hit back to level at three-all, the left-hander took out 157 as he moved to the brink of victory at 5-3, only for the youngster to win the final three legs.

Andy Hamilton moved through to the second round with a 6-1 win over Gareth Pass, who took the game's opening leg but was unable to stop the Stoke ace taking the next six without reply. The game's key leg was the fourth, as Hamilton followed a 180 with a 153 finish to lead 3-1.

Colin Osborne came from 3-0 down before defeating Gareth Cousins 6-5 to win through to the second round. Cousins took out 133 in the opening leg and also won the next two, only for Osborne to take five in a row and move to the brink of victory. Cousins hit back to level, but Osborne edged the decider to progress.

Robert Thornton moved into the last 32 with a 6-2 win over European Tour debutant Ricky Sudale, with Thornton sweeping into a 5-1 lead before completing victory.

Peter Wright set up a second round clash with Colin Osborne with a 6-2 win over Home Nation Qualifier Michael Kiebel. Wright took out a 161 finish as he moved 5-1 up, and although Kiebel won a second leg, he completed a strong win.

Terry Temple defeated Mark Walsh 6-4 in a see-saw encounter, which saw the Hertfordshire ace move 3-2 and 4-3 up before the Yorkshireman took the next three to sweep through and set up a second round tie with Terry Jenkins.

UK Masters champion John Part produced a sensational display to defeat Vincent van der Voort 6-1, averaging 108.35 in the process. Part took the first two legs before the Dutchman got off the mark, but the Canadian was irresistable as he swept through the next four, hitting four 180s and a 136 finish in a fine display which featured winning legs of 13, 14, 14, 12, 11 and 17 darts.

Ian White, the runner-up in last year's German Masters at the Glaspalast in Sindelfingen, swept aside James Richardson with a 6-0 whitewash, averaging 97 in a strong start to his
challenge this time around.

Number two seed Michael van Gerwen dropped only one leg as he defeated Leo Hendriks 6-1. Hendriks shared the opening two legs, but the world number three powered through the next five to set up a second round clash with Darren Webster.

Dean Winstanley set up a second round clash with German youngster Max Hopp with a 6-4 win over John Henderson. The Yorkshireman took the opening leg and hit two 180s in the
second, and though Henderson hit back with two legs of his own it was Winstanley who moved 5-2 up. The Scot hit back to 5-4, but Winstanley was too strong to seal the win.

Nick Fullwell came from 2-1 down to win five successive legs and defeat German favourite Jyhan Artut 6-2, putting himself into the last 32.

Wes Newton ended the hopes of another Home Nation Qualifier, Tomas Seyler, with a 6-3 win. Newton started superbly with legs of 11 and 14 darts before taking out 89 for a 3-0 lead, and though the German hit back to trail just 4-3, the Fleetwood ace was too strong.

Kevin Painter completed the first round action with a 6-0 whitewash of debutant Mario Gaisbauer in the day's final game.

Adrian Lewis v Andy Hamilton 0-0 - Adrian Lewis will throw first
0-1 - Hamilton lands a 180 with his second throw but the leg ends in despair for both players as they miss a total of 17 darts at doubles - ten from Hamilton and seven from Lewis - before Hamilton posts double one to break throw in the opener.
0-2 - Hamilton doubles his lead by hitting double eight.
1-2 - Hamilton misses double 18 to finish 150, and Lewis steps in to finish 56 on tops to get off the mark.
2-2 - Lewis fires in a 180 and posts tops again to level the game with a break of throw.
3-2 - Another 180 for Lewis leaves him 38 and he hits double 19 at the first time of asking to move ahead.
4-2 - Hamilton misses the bull and two further darts to win the leg, and Lewis hits tops to move two legs clear with another break.
4-3 - Hamilton misses the bullseye again, but Lewis is off-target with two darts at tops to allow him back to land double eight.
5-3 - Lewis regains his two-leg cushion in a bizarre twist, with Hamilton initially needing 164 but bursting his score to allow the two-time World Champion back, hitting double eight after missing the bull for a 170 checkout.
5-4 - Hamilton regains his composure with a superb 100 checkout to hit back.
6-4 - Hamilton hits a 180 to leave 50, but Lewis hits the bull to complete a 124 finish to ensure a point from the game.
7-4 - Lewis misses double nine for a 138 finish, but Hamilton is unable to take out 88 and the world number two returns to seal a key win.


Simon Whitlock v Robert Thornton 0-0 - Simon Whitlock will throw first
0-1 - Thornton delights the Scottish crowd with a 180 and double 19 to break throw in the opening leg.
0-2 - Thornton adds a second maximum as he doubles his lead.
0-3 - The Scot's stunning start continues with a third 180 of the game before he powers in a 157 checkout, maintaining a 128 average!
0-4 - Double top sees Thornton move four legs clear.
1-4 - Whitlock finishes 114 on tops to get off the mark.
1-5 - Thornton takes out 76 on tops to move further clear.
1-6 - Thornton finishes 121 on double 14 to ensure at least a draw - and the possibility of a record Premier League average!
1-7 - Thornton completes a superb win on double 12 - after Whitlock misses the bull for a 170 finish and two further darts at double eight. Thornton's end average is 107.65 - two points below his superb 109 of earlier in the season as he misses out on a personal best on TV.


Phil Taylor v Raymond van Barneveld 0-0 - Phil Taylor will throw first
1-0 - van Barneveld hits a 180, but Taylor - who has gone back to using the design of darts with which he won the World Championship in January after four games with a new design - hits double 16 to get off the mark.
2-0 - van Barneveld hits another maximum, but misses darts at double 16, 12 and six to allow Taylor in on tops.
3-0 - The Dutchman misses the bull for a 124 finish, and Taylor again lands tops to win a third leg.
3-1 - van Barneveld gets off the mark by finishing double eight.
4-1 - Taylor hits a 180 and posts double 16 to regain his cushion.
4-2 - Double 16 sees van Barneveld hit back again.
5-2 - van Barneveld opens with 180 and 140 in hitting five successive treble 20s, but he misses four darts to break throw and Taylor lands a third-dart double five to avert a break of throw.
6-2 - Taylor opens with 140 and 180 before hitting double eight to ensure at least a point.
6-3 - Taylor misses two match darts at double 16, and van Barneveld takes out 144 to keep in the game.
7-3 - Two misses at double top from van Barneveld allow Taylor to seal victory with a 72 finish.


Gary Anderson v Wes Newton 0-0 - Gary Anderson will throw first
0-1 - Anderson misses eight doubles to win the opening leg, and Newton punishes him - eventually - on double four.
0-2 - Three further misses from Anderson allow the Fleetwood ace in to double his lead.
1-2 - Anderson hits a 180 and lands double five to get off the mark.
2-2 - The Scot delights the home crowd with double 11 to break throw and level.
3-2 - Anderson posts a 180 and tops to move ahead.
3-3 - Newton takes out 132 on the bull to level.
4-3 - Newton hits a 180, but misses two darts at double eight, and Anderson hits tops to edge ahead.
4-4 - Anderson posts a maximum but misses tops for a 160 finish, and Newton takes out 84 on double 11 to square the game again.
5-4 - Anderson this time takes out 84 on the bull to regain the lead.
5-5 - Anderson misses double top, and Newton takes out 120 to level.
5-6 - Anderson crucially misses five darts at doubles, and Newton breaks throw on double eight.
5-7 - Newton secures a huge victory by taking out 72 to keep his McCoy's Premier League hopes alive.



Michael van Gerwen v James Wade 0-0 - Michael van Gerwen will throw first1-0 - van Gerwen posts a 180 in a superb opening leg, as he finishes double eight for a 13-darter.
1-1 - Wade kicks off with two 180s, and although a possible nine-darter goes begging, he finishes 90 for a 12-darter to level.
1-2 - The left-hander breaks throw with a sparkling 11-darter, finishing with an 86 checkout.
1-3 - van Gerwen kicks off with a maximum, but Wade finishes 134 for a 12-darter to move two legs up.
1-4 - Wade's charge continues as he wins a fourth successive leg, punishing missed doubles from van Gerwen across two visits by pinning tops.
2-4 - van Gerwen hits back by finishing double eight for a 14-dart finish
3-4 - The Dutchman reduces the gap to one leg by taking out tops for a 13-darter.
3-5 - Wade checks out a sensational 135 finish of bullseye, treble 15 and double top to regain his cushion.
3-6 - van Gerwen misses further doubles as Wade finishes 52 on tops to ensure a minimum of a point.
4-6 - Wade misses three match darts at tops as the Dutchman hits the same bed to stay in the hunt.
4-7 - The pair trade 180s before Wade finishes 130 on double five for a 12-darter which seals a superb win, ending the game with seven doubles from 11 attempts.

PDC McCoys Premier League-Week 8 Preview

The McCoy Premier League returns to Scotland this week to a small town called Glasgow. Its always been a good night when we have been here, and this week should be no different.

First on stage of the night is Jackpot against the Hammer. Last week both players won there matches with Lewis beating Thornton and Hamilton beating the Wizard. Its getting a bit desperate for Lewis now thou has he needs to win all the remaining matches if he stands a chance of making the cut off point. Both players will be on it and should be a cracker.

Next up are both the losers from Lewis and Hamilton. Whitlock and Thornton never have boring matches and the Thorn will have hometown advantage, will this make a difference to the Wizard? I don't think so not a lot phases him.

The match of the night could be Taylor v van Barneveld. The rivalry is has old has time with the Power normally coming out on top, but Taylor hasn't been Taylor for a few weeks so this could be Barneys chance. Its a betting nightmare too!!

Another Scot, Anderson takes to the stage next against the down and out Newton. The Warrior can play his own game now has he has little to no chance of qualifying now. He could give Ando some problems and mess up his chances of making the play-offs.

Last on is my match of the night with van Gerwen taking on Wade. Both players are still in awesome form, and if these two gladiators are on it, it will be a true Tungsten battle of the highest order.

 

This weeks Walk-On Girls are the returning Scottish duo of Jade Leigh Hunt and Debbie Shaw. We last saw both the girls at Aberdeen and they did a fantastic job and gained a few Darts Family followers too. I hope they both have another fantastic night at the Darts.

An Interview With Walk-On Girl Ali Drew

This is an interview with New Sky Walk-on girl Ali Drew.

We have only seen Ali once so far and that was at the McCoys Premier League in Cardiff. The Welsh Stunner coped well with the big crowd, and we hope to see more of her soon.


1: How did you find out about being a walk-on girl?

It was through Angels Elite Models and Promotions.



2: How long have you been doing it for?

Last night at the Premier league in Cardiff was my first walk on for the Darts.



3: What's your favourite Darts tournament?
McCoys Premier League of course.



4: What's been your Darting highlight?
Watching Phil 'the Power' Taylor play metres away from me.



5: Are you any good at darts?
Not to bad, use to play quite a lot at university.

6: Have you got any ambitions?
Yes, to be a successful model & actress.



7: If you could have your own walk-on music, what would it be?
It would have to be the Bingo Players With Get Up because it gets everyone dancing.

8: What would you Darting nickname be?
Think it would have to be Ali 'the Diamond' Drew, Its kind of catchy don't you think!




9: Do you have a favourite Darts Player?
Phil 'the Power' Taylor, I've met him a few times, he's so nice and such a legend in the darting world.

10: Tell me something we don't know about you?
I am running the London Marathon on April 21st 2013.



11: What do you like to do in your spare Time, if you have any?
I like going to the gym, going out with my friends and going out for meals as I can't cook.



12: Any advice for someone wanting to get involved in being a walk-on girl?

An Interview with James 'Jammie Dodger' Wilson

This is an Interview with BDO Player James 'Jammie Dodger' Wilson.

James lives in Huddersfield where he works as a Roofer. He started playing darts at 14 at home with his mum and dad and also at the 4 horseshoes pub. 


1. When did you start playing darts? When did it start getting ‘serious’?

I started play when i was 14 in a local pub team with my mum. I played in the youths and got to the Seniors of Yorkshire but i didn't think i was good enough so i stopped playing. Then i entered a few competitions and did alright then stopped again, then just walked into the local pub one day the landlord gave me some darts. I threw 60, 60 then a 180 and it all started from there. i got a sponsor but he couldn't carry on, but Scott Waites had seen me playing and he said he would sponsor me!




2. Who makes your Darts, how did the partnership come about?

I use Scott's to be honest.




3. Do you find it difficult to play and beat people?

Not really. I go up and play my own game. I don't think who I'm playing, i think about how they are playing. I play my own game, if i hit 45, i hit 45 it doesn't phase me. I'm not a showman, its all about playing your own game.




4. You have had a good 12 months. Any major ambitions?

To become World Champion really, i was going for it last year i was just unlucky to draw Stephen Bunting in the first round, it could of gone either way but he got it in the end. So far this year I'm getting better and better so this time round at the Lakeside they will all have to watch out for me because I've been there now, i know what its all about. It was the little niggles that put me off, like the cameras and the crowd, but I've been there and done it now. Its all about experience i suppose. I lost to Scott in the Dutch final, it was a hard game to play. I was in front and i shouldn't really of thought about Scott, i should of carried on playing my own game. Obviously with Scott sponsoring me and being a really good friend i just seemed to lose it, that will be the first and last time that will ever happen, cos next time it will be game on!




5. What’s your favourite tournament?

My favourite tournament of late i will have to say is Jersey. I really enjoy it, its fantastic to go too. I will be going again this year.

6. Describe your throw in 3 words.

I can describe it in one word.... methodical.




7. What was the highlight of 2012?

I would have to say being at Lakeside. The atmosphere is awesome, that's the main thing in the year that a strive to get to. Now I've been there i want more.




8. What do you do to relax away from darts?

I play Crown green Bowls.




9. Tell me something we don’t know about you.

Well crown green bowling was one of them ha ha. I'm quite good and funnily enough it has the same principles has darts. Its all about hand to eye co-ordination, its a really good game to get into. There is no stress of winning, of which i do a lot of ha ha

10. Do you have any darts weaknesses

Yeah, Friendship. In the BDO everyone travels together, stays in the same hotel and we all go out together. Sometimes its really difficult to play people who you know really well, but I've been switching off of late. Ive been beating them on the dartboard, then shaking hands and back to good friends. Its the only way to be really. Scott has taught me a lot of how to be like that, when your on the board with them they are your worst enemy but after you can be as pally has you want with them.




11. Why ‘Pump up the jam’? If not that what else would you walk on tune be?

It goes with the name Jammie Dodger, pump up the Jam, and the crowd love it. If it couldn't be that i had another song which was 187 Lockdown.

12. Do you take much notice of the social media side of darts i.e.: Twitter, Facebook etc

No not really, my partner does all that side of thing for me. I just try and stay focused on the job I'm doing, i do go on the computer to read all the reviews of the matches thou. I also record all the games I've been in, to watch myself to see where I've been going wrong.




13. When your not playing do you enjoy watching any other players play? Who?

I love watching Stephen Bunting play because he really gets stuck into it, and love watching Scott play because i practise with him. Daryll Fitton and Tony O'Shea they are both great. When Tony is on it he really takes some beating, they are all good games to watch. Its good to watch the older guys, the ones that have been playing for years to see how they cope with the pressure.




　

14. Why have you never taken the leap to the PDC? Is it something that would interest you? And when if you were to go?

I would love to go to the PDC to play darts has a living, at the moment I'm roofing and there's not a lot of work about. But switching would depend on what sponsor i got and what deal i got offered. If i got a good deal i wouldn't sit around and wait i would probably go. It wouldn't bother me if i was world champion or not, it just the expense of that side. If i got the right offer i would go. I would do the Lakeside this year thou, then after that we would have to see.

An Interview with Neil Cookson

This is an interview with Neil Cookson, one of the people behind the Sky Walk-on girls.

 

 

Neil is one of the people behind the scenes with the Sky walk-on girls. He does most of the promotional work for them including all the social media, and is married to Karen who is Angels Elite that finds all the girls for the jobs.





1: How long have you been doing the whole Walk-on promotions for?
I never thought of it being a promotion, i just do what i do so people who are interested can see whats going on etc, its all about playing darts etc first and foremost.


 
2: How do you Choose the girls for the Walk-on jobs?
I don't choose anybody haha !


 
3: What’s your favourite Darts tournament?
Suppose i best say Matchplay at the Winter Gardens in Blackpool, where it all started for the Original Walk-On Models Karen and Sue! And was a great stepping stone for quiet a few other young ladies !



4: Are you any good at darts?
I played in the Fleetwood Local league many moons ago, I'm a left hander, no steady style just got a good eye haha !




5: If you could have your own walk-on music, what would it be?
Either Town Called Malice or Eton Rifles the Jam.

6: What would you Darting nickname be?
Cookie.


 
7: Do you have a favourite Darts Player?
Not really, just enjoy watching the different styles, stance, speed etc of all the players and how they slow down or speed a game up depending on who they are playing.


8: Tell me something we don’t know about you?
I played Football for Fleetwood Town .



9: What do you like to do in your spare Time, if you have any?
Play guitar/sing, and football coaching for free to youngsters at schools.


 
10: Who would be your dream walk-on girl duo?
It has to be THE ORIGINALS from Angels Elite Models, Karen (my lovely wife ) and of cause Sue!

PDC World Youth Finals

NINE-DART hero Michael Smith and emerging star Ricky Evans will contest the PDC Unicorn World Youth Championship Final in May after winning through the £40,000 tournament's early rounds in Barnsley on Friday night.

The tournament, featuring players who competed on last year's PDC Unicorn Youth Tour and a series of International Qualifiers, saw Smith joined in hitting a perfect leg by Kurt Parry.

Smith went on to win through to May's final, which will be played during the McCoy's Premier League Darts Play-Offs at The O2 in London, by showing some incredible form in winning five matches on Friday night.

The 22-year-old from St Helens dropped just one leg as he defeated Brandon Walsh, George Killington, Samuel Head and Dean Finn to reach the semi-finals - hitting a nine-darter in the opening leg of his last 16 game with Head.

Smith then defeated County Durham's Adam Hunt 6-3 to win through to the final with another fine performance - which comes only a week after he had reached the final of a Speedy Services UK Open Qualifier on the senior circuit. "I've been practising so well for the last few months and, since Christmas, I've put in an amazing amount of work so it's great to see it paying off," said Smith. "I'm confident that I can keep this form going now and I'm really going to look forward to the final. I was shaking like a leaf in the semi-finals and it was brilliant to win it."

Kettering's Evans, meanwhile, won through to face Smith at The O2 by defeating 2011 World Youth Champion Arron Monk 6-3 in their semi-final. Evans defeated Canada's Shaun Narain in the first round and then saw off Australian youngster Harley Kemp before overcoming Chris Aubrey, Sam Hamilton and Monk.

The 22-year-old, a winner on the PDC Unicorn Youth Tour in 2011, has only ever competed on television once before, at the 2010 UK Open, but will compete in front of 10,000 fans in May when he competes for the World Youth Championship title.

Evans had turned professional in January when he won a PDC Tour Card at Qualifying School, and admitted: "Ever since Q School I've been on a high and this is something I've really wanted. "I'm enjoying my darts so much at the moment. It's a big step up for me and it will be the biggest crowd I've played in front of by miles, but it's going to be an exciting two months waiting for the day to arrive!"

The pair will also now qualify for November's William Hill Grand Slam of Darts, and are assured of a PDC Tour Card for 2014 and 2015, although both are currently Tour Card Holders. Smith's achievement in hitting a nine-dart finish came only minutes after 19-year-old Welshman Kurt Parry had hit a perfect leg during his second round win over Josh Jones.

Reigning champion James Hubbard was a first round casualty as he went down 6-4 to Matthew Dicken, while fellow seeds Jamie Lewis and Keegan Brown also lost at that stage, to Brandon Monk and Reece Robinson respectively.

Australian teenagers Harley Kemp and Jackson Wilson-Young both reached the last 32 following their around-the-world trips, and emerging German ace Max Hopp made it through to the last 16 before losing out to Sam Hamilton. Hamilton picked up £1,500 as a quarter-final loser alongside Dutchman Ryan De Vreede, Jake Patchett and Irish qualifier Dean Finn.

BDO BOARD CHANGES

The BDO Board of Directors has accepted the resignation of Barry Gilbey, who was elected onto the Board in August 2011.

During his tenure, Barry has overseen the introduction of Executive Directors, giving the Company greater stability and expertise in areas such as PR, IT and Merchandising.

The Board wishes to acknowledge his past services to the BDO and thank him for his time and input on behalf of the BDO during his time on the Board.

In a further change to the Board structure, John Weller, Executive Director for Marketing, Merchandising and Fund-Raising, was co-opted as a full Board member with immediate effect.

John is well known and respected within the BDO as General Secretary of Essex, and BICC Executive Divisional Director for Division 4.
