PDC Players Chapionships- 7 Results

DAVE CHISNALL claimed a second victory on the PDC ProTour in the space of six days after overcoming Peter Wright 6-5 in a dramatic Players Championship final at the Barnsley Metrodome.
The St Helens ace, who claimed his first title of the year at the German Darts Championship last weekend and turned 33 on Thursday, continued his excellent form in Barnsley, culminating in victory over Wright to take the £10,000 first prize.

Chisnall’s road to the final began with a 6-3 triumph over Mick Todd before overcoming the challenges of Gino Vos and Justin Pipe with tight 6-5 wins.

In the last 16, Chisnall saw off Wayne Jones 6-3 and defeated Mervyn King by the same margin to book his place in the last four against Simon Whitlock.

There, the world number seven produced a superb performance to dispose of the Australian 6-1 with the aid of a 103 average, before continuing that form in the early stages of the final where he led 3-1.

From two legs down Wright turned the tide as he landed an excellent 89 finish on the bullseye to win the fifth leg before taking the next two to leave his opponent trailing 4-3.

Chisnall hit back to take the eighth leg and draw level at four apiece before Wright edged ahead again by landing double 16 to move a leg away from victory.

However, Chisnall hit his sixth 180 of the game in the process of forcing a deciding leg, which he won in superb style against the darts thanks to a 124 checkout.

The ever consistent Wright began his day with a trio of 6-2 victories over Magnus Caris, Dennis Smith and Joe Cullen to reach the last 16 stage of the tournament.

The 43-year-old Scottish World Cup representative then ended the hopes of John Bowles with a 6-4 win before defeating Stoke’s Ian White by the same scoreline to move through to the semi-finals.

In the last four, Wright produced a 100 average to defeat Dutchman Michael van Gerwen by a 6-2 margin, which included checkouts of 108 and 103.

That fine victory saw Wright gain an opportunity at revenge over Chisnall, following his defeat in Germany last weekend, but he had to settle for the runners-up cheque for a second weekend running, despite holding a 5-4 lead in the final.

Whitlock claimed a cheque for £2,500 for reaching the last four in Barnsley along with the ever impressive van Gerwen, although the Australian's day could have been over in the first round when his opponent Nigel Heydon missed three opportunities at double top to claim a famous scalp.

The Australian put that narrow escape behind as he went on to defeat the likes of Michael Smith, Dean Winstanley and Paul Nicholson to reach the semi-final stage before falling victim to Chisnall.

Van Gerwen looked good for another win in a ProTour event in 2013 after thumping five-time World Champion Raymond van Barneveld 6-1 in their quarter-final clash, only to lose 6-2 to Wright in the semi-finals.

Van Barneveld, who had suffered two surprise first round exits in Australia and Germany over the last fortnight, regained some confidence at the Barnsley Metrodome as he reached the last eight stage, which included a fine 6-1 victory in the third round over two-time World Champion Adrian Lewis.

Nicholson reached the quarter-finals of a ProTour event for first time since May and he was joined by King and White, who all took away £1,500 for their efforts.

Grand Slam of Darts semi-finalist Winstanley showed signs of a return to form as he reached the last 16 stage, where he was joined by former major finalists Wayne Jones and Mark Dudbridge, who have also endured barren spells over the last 12 months.

Three-time World Champion John Part suffered a first round exit along with former major winners Robert Thornton, Kevin Painter and Colin Lloyd, and top ten star Wes Newton was also a first round casualty at the hands of Vincent van der Voort.

Ted Hankey withdrew on the morning of the event after suffering minor injuries in a car accident on Friday evening, and though he will also miss Sunday's Players Championship the two-time Lakeside Champion is expected to be able to compete in next week's European Tour event in Sindelfingen.

The weekend at the Barnsley Metrodome concludes on Sunday where a further Players Championship event with £50,000 on offer is scheduled to take place as qualification for the partypoker.com World Grand and Championship League of Darts intensifies.

BDO/BICC Premier and Division 1 Results

BICC Premier Division

The first weekend of the season is over and it’s Lancashire who are sitting pretty at the top of the Premier Division after a resounding 29-10 thumping of Cheshire who finish week 1 bottom. Close behind are Kent who beat Oxfordshire 26-13 followed by Yorkshire and Glamorgan on 25 points each with points difference all that separates 3rd and 4th.

The 2 promoted sides who met in the Premier Division for its opener were Gwent and Cambridgeshire in Wales. This clash was a chance for one of them to start life in the top flight the best way possible and it was Cambridgeshire who edged out as winners 22-17. The highest performers that Cambridgeshire will be thanking are Dennis Harbour and Adam Cousins who averaged 27.82 and 28.84 respectively.

Breaking down the leagues we see Kent topping the Men’s A league with Lancashire top of the Men’s B. For the Women Glamorgan had the highest A performers with Cambridgeshire top of the Women’s B.

Hampshire ended the first weekend of matches at the top of Division 1 after beating newly promoted side London 28-11, Hampshire’s Sam Rooney highest averaging with 29.91. London will be realising the weight of the task ahead as they begin the fight to stay in the second flight of British darts. The other promoted side Lincolnshire also were on the losing side as Dorset, who are now third notched 26 points to Lincolnshire’s 13.

Elsewhere Cornwall will be pleased with ending September’s matches in 2nd after the win over County Durham and the 2 unfortunate relegated sides from last season Premier Division, Devon and Surrey, were unable to be split as they drew 19-19.

PDC German Darts Championship- Day3

TOP SEEDS Michael van Gerwen and Simon Whitlock were knocked out of the German Darts Championship in the third round on Sunday afternoon by comeback victories for Andy Hamilton and Daryl Gurney in Hildesheim.
Van Gerwen's bid to win a third European Tour title of the year was derailed as he saw Hamilton come from 3-0 down to claim a 6-4 triumph.

The Dutch ace had opened the game in the same form which had seen him whitewash Colin Osborne in round two, finishing 78, 110 and double 12 to win the game's opening three legs.

Hamilton, though, kick-started his challenge with a brilliant 146 finish in the fourth leg, before scoring 167 to set up 40 as he won a second leg with a 14-darter, and he then hit a 180 in another 14-dart finish as he levelled the game.

Van Gerwen broke back in leg seven to move 4-3 up, but Hamilton replied superbly with a maximum in an 11-darter to level once more, and he then added another 180 in a 14-darter to lead for the first time at 5-4.

The pair traded 180s in the next as van Gerwen fought to force a decider, but the Dutchman missed double seven for a 122 finish and three further darts at the bed to allow Hamilton in on double ten for a gritty win.

"Sometimes you play the player, and I upped my game tremendously against a player who's in great form," said Hamilton. "I was in the zone, my finishes were good and I took my chances."

Number two seed Simon Whitlock joined van Gerwen in being knocked out as he went down in a dramatic deciding leg against Northern Ireland's Daryl Gurney.

The pair enjoyed a tight battle, with Whitlock coming from 4-3 down to move 5-4 up with an 11-darter, but Gurney forced a decided and pounced when the Australian missed the bull and two darts at double 16 for the win by landing double 18 to claim victory.

Gurney, who won a PDC Tour Card in January and is appearing in his first European Tour event, now plays Peter Wright in the quarter-finals on Sunday evening, and admitted: "I'm very proud to have won this game.

"I've beaten a Premier League player, one of the best in the world, and I feel really good after that. I thought Simon was going to win in the last leg, but I had a bit of luck."

Wright, a semi-finalist in June's UK Open, booked his place in the last eight with a 6-3 win over Jelle Klaasen, despite the Dutch ace finishing 144 as he shared the game's opening four legs.

Hamilton now plays Steve Beaton in the quarter-finals, after the former World Champion reached the last eight for the third successive European Tour event with a dramatic 6-5 win over Andy Smith, who was left waiting on 40 in the deciding leg of a tight game.

Dave Chisnall was another 6-5 winner - for the third successive game this weekend - as he edged out Paul Nicholson, who missed the bull for a 124 checkout in the deciding leg of their clash.

Chisnall's quarter-final opponent will be Kevin Painter, who came from 2-0 down to defeat Justin Pipe 6-4.

Jamie Caven and Richie Burnett will meet in the other quarter-final following their respective wins over Vincent van der Voort and Steve Brown.

Caven dropped only one leg as he defeated van der Voort 6-1, while Burnett averaged 101.85 in his 6-2 defeat of resurgent Brown.

The £100,000 European Tour event will conclude on Sunday evening, with the quarter-finals, semi-finals and final being held at Halle 39 in Hildeshiem - and with no former European Tour winner remaining in the field, there is guaranteed to be a new winner in the series of events.

The St Helens ace had reached two European Tour finals in 2012, losing out to Phil Taylor and Raymond van Barneveld, but finally went one better as he won his first title since last November.

Chisnall had continued his fine weekend's form at Halle 39 in Hildesheim as he defeated Paul Nicholson and Kevin Painter in deciding legs earlier on Sunday, before sealing a 6-4 semi-final win over Steve Beaton with a spectacular 170 checkout.

He enjoyed his most comprehensive win in the final as he dropped only two legs and averaged almost 100 in seeing off Wright 6-2 to claim glory in front of a sell-out German crowd.

After edging a nervy opening leg, Chisnall doubled his lead with a 13-dart leg and, after Wright got off the mark with a 14-dart finish, he then took out 130 for a 12-darter to lead 3-1.

Chisnall then punished a missed double 18 from Wright by landing double nine to move 4-1 up, and took out tops to move to the brink of victory at 5-1.

He landed a 180 to leave 73 in the seventh leg as he closed on the winning line, only for Wright to finish 106 in keeping his hopes alive - but the fightback was to be short-lived as Chisnall hit another 180 to set up double 18 as he secured the triumph with a 13-dart leg.

"It's the highlight of my career," said Chisnall. "It feels great and I'm delighted because I played well throughout the tournament.

"I was a bit nervous against Kevin Painter in the quarter-finals and I missed a few doubles, but once I came through that I played the darts that I know I can play, especially against Steve in the semis.

"I had four 6-5 results in my first four games but some of those probably shouldn't have been 6-5, but that's darts and I don't mind as long as I win them! If I'd hit my doubles a bit better then it might have been easier for me."

Chisnall added: "I had two good events last year where I got to the final but played Phil Taylor and Raymond van Barneveld, but this was my time.

"My form wasn't that good earlier in the year but I've got it back now, so I'm very happy."

Wright had to settle for the £10,000 runner-up prize as he was denied a third ranking title which would have been the biggest win of his career.

The Lowestoft ace, a semi-finalist in the UK Open earlier this year, had seen off World Youth Championship finalist Ricky Evans, German qualifier Michael Hurtz, Jelle Klaasen and Daryl Gurney on his way to the last four.

There, he overcame Richie Burnett 6-5 in an epic clash, with the colourful Welsh ace taking out an 11-darter and a 121 finish as he moved 4-2 up, only to miss one dart for victory as Wright forced a deciding leg, which he won in 12 darts.

"I'm pleased to have reached the final but it's disappointing to lose," said Wright, who continues to climb towards a place in the world's top 16.

"I think the semi-final took a lot out of me, and fair play to Dave because in the final he seemed to hit everything. I just wanted him to give me a chance but he didn't, and he played well."

Burnett's run to the semis improves his chances of qualifying for next month's partypoker.com World Grand Prix in Ireland, while Beaton also picked up £5,000 prize money as he reached the last four in a European Tour event for the second time this year.

Emerging Northern Irish ace Gurney celebrated his European Tour debut by knocking out world number four Simon Whitlock on his way to the last eight, while Andy Hamilton had come from 3-0 down to end Michael van Gerwen's hopes of a third European Tour win of the year in their last 16 clash.

Hamilton went on to lose to Beaton, while Painter was edged out by Chisnall and Jamie Caven went down 6-4 to Burnett as the Welshman hit back from 3-1 down to claim victory.

The next European Tour event will be the German Darts Masters at the Glaspalast in Sindelfingen from September 20-22, as Adrian Lewis defends the title he won 12 months ago.

PDC Challenge Tour Event 15- Results

RICKY EVANS edged out Ben Ward to win PDC Unicorn Challenge Tour Event 15 at the Rivermead Centre in Reading on Sunday.

Evans, this year's World Youth Championship runner-up, claimed the £500 first prize with a fine comeback win in the final against Ward, who had been Saturday's Event 13 winner and Event 14 runner-up during a superb weekend.

Kettering's Evans had won the game's opening leg, before Ward took out 152 to level and an 11-darter to lead 2-1, before also taking the fourth for a 3-1 cushion.

Evans won the fifth and then finished 104 to force a decider, in which he scored 140, 180 and 165 before landing double eight for a 12-darter as he took the victory with a 102 average.

Evans, a PDC Unicorn Youth Tour winner in 2011 who had been a first round loser on Friday in the German Darts Championship before returning to Reading, had defeated Adam Hunt 4-2 in the semi-finals and also overcame Michael McFall, Ryan Harrington, Austrian youngster Rowby-John Rodriguez and Jimmy Hendriks in a tough route through the event.

Ward opened the day with whitewashes of Russell Pope and George Killington before edging past Daniel Day, and he also saw off Arron Fairweather, Ben Songhurst and Jan Dekker as he reached the decider.

Dekker's run to the last four followed up appearances in the quarter-finals and semi-finals 24 hours earlier during a successful weekend for the Dutch ace, who was joined in the last four by County Durham ace Hunt.

The next PDC Unicorn Challenge Tour weekend will be held at the K2 Centre in Crawley on September 28 & 29, when the final three £3,000 tournaments of the year will take place.

PDC Challenge Tour 13 and 14- Results

BEN WARD and Luke Woodhouse shared the spoils on the opening day of the PDC Unicorn Challenge Tour weekend in Reading.
Ward followed up his previous Challenge Tour success in Event Ten in July by sweeping through the field on Saturday's Event 13 at the Rivermead Centre.

The 24-year-old from Dorchester defeated Anthony West and Lewis Hackett for the loss of only one leg before then edging past Isle of Wight ace Keegan Brown 4-2 to reach the quarter-finals, where he was a 4-2 winner against Samuel Head.

He then overcame Hull's Reece Robinson by the same scoreline in the semi-finals, and claimed the £500 first prize with a narrow 4-3 defeat of Sam Hewson in the decider.

Hewson's run to the final included victories over Dutch trio Kevin Voornhout, Ryan De Vreede and Wouter Vaes in the latter stages, while another Dutch ace, Jan Dekker, also reached the quarter-finals.

Ward came close to completing a memorable 'double' as he reached the final of the day's second event, but went down 4-1 to Luke Woodhouse, the 24-year-old from Worcestershire who claimed his first title on the Challenge Tour.

Woodhouse - a loser in the last 32 to Brown earlier in the day - overcame Jamie Landon, Shane Edwards, Curtis Bagley, Gaz Cousins and Ryan Hogarth in his run to the victory, as he took home £500 as the Event 14 champion.

Ward, hot on the heels of his earlier triumph, overcame Adam Smith-Neale, Craig Cox, Lee Whitworth, Shaun Griffiths and Dekker as he progressed to the decider, with the £300 prize money taking him to £800 on the day.

Dekker followed up his earlier quarter-final with a semi-final appearance in the day's second event, and he was joined in the last four by Hogarth, while the four losing quarter-finalists - Matthew Dennant, Josh Payne, Cousins and Griffiths - all have experience at senior PDC level.

Sunday will see Challenge Tour Event 15 complete the weekend in Reading, with a further £3,000 prize money on offer.
