An Interview with Walk-On girl Beth Dust

This is an interview with Sky Walk-On Girl Beth Dust.

The first time we saw Beth has a Walk-On girl was at the Grand Slam of Darts in Wolverhampton. She has quickly became a fan favourite.


1: So Beth How did you find out about being a walk-on girl?

An agency I'm with 'Angels Elite' contacted me and put me forward.

 
2: How long have you been doing it for?

I started doing promotion work at the darts 3yrs ago, then 2years ago we walked Johnny Vegas, Freddie Flintoff and Jack Whitehall on for a league of their own for the darts, and did a few darts shoots, we also did the Betfair Baywatch Advert with a few of the darts stars in - then I did my walk-ons at Wolverhampton last year.


3: What’s your favourite Darts tournament?

The Ladbrokes World Darts Championship.


4: What’s been your Darting highlight?

All of it! Absolutely love the darts.

 
5: Are you any good at darts?

I'm actually pretty good, even got a darts board in my kitchen!! (With a few added holes in the wall) ha ha

6: Have you got any ambitions?

My ambition is to be happy and try my best in everything I do - Cheesy!!



7: If you could have your own walk-on music, what would it be?

'Another bites the dust' ha ha to go with my name!



8: What would you Darting nickname be?

Haven't a blooming clue - pick one for me lol

8a: What about 'Gold' Dust!




9: Do you have a favourite Darts Player?

I like Phil Taylor - he's fun to walk on! And Wes Newton - a family friend and generally nice guy!



10: Tell me something we don’t know about you?

I have a twin sister.

 

11: What do you like to do in your spare Time, if you have any?

I like to go to the gym and spend time with my friends and family - with a couple of glasses of wine.



12: Any advice for someone wanting to get involved in being a walk-on girl?

Do it.... It's the most amazing experience and so much fun!!

PDC McCoys Premier League-Week 5 Preview

The McCoys Premier League rolls into Nottingham this Thursday with another week of high Darting tension and a return of a Darts favourite.

March 7 - Capital FM Arena, Nottingham

James Wade v Robert Thornton

Phil Taylor v Gary Anderson
Wes Newton v Simon Whitlock

All 5 of the matches look tasty with the 'Thorn' Robert Thornton looking to carry on his winning ways against James Wade. Barney battling with the Hammer is another corker. 2 Times world champ Lewis has van Gerwen has his opponent, Jackpot needs this match to go in his favour to try and get off the bottom of the table. Taylor and Anderson could be a high scoring affair, the question is will The Power be playing with his new Darts? Or will the trusty Phase 5's be coming out to play? We shall have to wait and see. The last match of the evening is Newton versus Whitlock, the Wizard is in fine form at the moment, has the Warrior got the tools to put up a fight?

The most important thing about this weeks Premier League, and what everyone has been talking about, is the return to our screens of Walk-on Girl Daniella Allfree. Daniella has become a big #DartsFamily favourite, since she graced our Tv screens at the Grand Slam of Darts. The brunette from Chesterfield has made a huge impact after her first appearance, She will also be at Manchester, Sheffield, Birmingham and Liverpool for the Premier League.

An Interview with the Darts Referee Huw Ware.

Huw is a record breaker in his own right, being the youngest ever referee at the age of 18. Huw is a proud Welshman from Glamorgan.

1: So Huw, How did you find out about being a caller/referee?


When I started playing darts I found the numbers all clicked together in my head quite quickly as I was throwing. So during a Glamorgan Youth V Seniors friendly when the regular caller didn't turn up, I volunteered to help out. I ended up staying on there all day, and became the regular County caller soon after. Fast forward a couple of years and I was given a trial run at the Welsh Open in Prestatyn, then got the call to go to the World Masters, then onto Lakeside!



2: How long have you been doing it for?

I've been doing it since mid-2009, so coming up for 4 years now.




3: What’s your favourite Darts tournament?

They're all great - I love the TV tournaments, for everything that comes with them, while I also love the running of the floor events.




4: What’s been your Darting highlight?

Without a doubt becoming the youngest referee ever to officiate a World Championship final in 2013.




5: Have you got any ambitions?

To become as good a referee as I possibly can be.




6: Are you any good at darts?

I was (emphasis on was!). I was picked for Wales Youth in the Europe Cup and the first Youth Home Internationals, both in 2011. So 2011 was a defining year for me really in darting terms because I did that, then in September I had my refereeing TV debut at the Winmau World Masters.




7: If you could have your own walk-on music, what would it be?

One Vision by Queen. Queen are my favourite band and it would be a great track to get the crowd going. Also I suppose with the One Vision of winning! Maybe we should call it "Double-One Vision" in my case!



8: What would you Darting nickname be?

"Tupper"! For obvious reasons!! Huw "Tupper" Ware!



9: Tell me something we don’t know about you?

I'm a big football fan. I'm a massive Manchester United supporter - at the time of answering we're about 2 hours away from the second leg of the Real Madrid clash. Nervous already!



11: What do you like to do in your spare Time, if you have any?

I like to work out at my local gym. I started that at the back end of last year and enjoy it. Aside from that listening to music and watching the tele (typical student!).



12: Any advice for someone wanting to get involved in being a caller?

I think if you show good enthusiasm for wanting to be a caller (be it at County, or just down the local pub) then you will get the opportunity. I think there's a lot more to refereeing than just adding up the numbers. Obviously that's the most important thing, but it's also about the style, the presence, the authority etc. As you grow accustomed to it as you do more matches you'll have the chance to develop it and cultivate your voice as well. Also don't panic at any point when you're up there, be it when you're calling the first leg of your very first match, or if a score throws you, or during the closing stages of a particularly tense match, just keep composed.



14: Do you go all over the world or just stay in Britain?

I haven't done any international tournaments as of yet, but I would love to in the future.

BDO Isle of Man Open

There is more than £22,000 on offer at the 28th Isle of Man International Festival of Darts from March 9th to 11th and reigning Lakeside World Professional Champion Scott Waites will be hoping to add the prestigious Isle of Man International Festival of Darts title to his bulging trophy cabinet after taking his winning form to the recent Dutch Open, where he emerged 2013 Champion.

There is £5000 on offer to the winner of the Men’s Singles and £3000 for the Women’s Singles champion, with the added bonus of invitations to the 2013 Winmau World Masters. Both Scott and reigning and three times Lakeside Women's World Champion, Anastasia Dobromyslova, are seeking their first Isle-of-Man titles.

A total prize fund of £22,800 is on offer across the three-day tournament (March 9-11), as well as BDO Invitation Tables Category A rankings points. Also new to the event is a 9-Dart prize sponsored by Specsavers.

The venue for the 28th festival will once again be the palatial sea-front Villa Marina entertainment complex in Douglas - one of the most impressive venues on the darts calendar. Last year there was a strong contingent from the Netherlands and the island is once again expecting an 'invasion' by the orange army after an all-Dutch 2012 final in which Jeffrey de Graaf celebrated victory over fellow countryman Jan Dekker in the Men’s Singles.

And there were further Dutch celebrations when Francis Hoenselaar won the Women’s Singles title - preventing England's Deta Hedman from collecting her sixth Manx win.

Deta will be back this year, as will nine times Lakeside Women's World Champion Trina Gulliver, who won the recent Dutch Open Singles title and will be keen to continue her good form by claiming her third I-o-M Singles title. Four times winner Julie Gore will be looking to build on previous successes but the lure of the £3000 top prize and rankings points will ensure a high quality field.

Supporting the singles events are Mixed Pairs, Men’s and Women’s Pairs, plus the island play-offs for the Winmau World Masters Youth competition. For early arrivals on the island the 2013 Festival opens on Thursday night (March 7) with a winner-takes-all knockout competition, supported by Okells Brewery.

The following night will see the Mixed Pairs and Winmau World Master Youth play-offs being staged, with the Men’s and Women’s Singles played down to the Semi-Finals on Saturday. Sunday will see the Men’s and Women’s Pairs, followed by the finals of all competitions immediately afterwards in the impressive circular Royal Hall.

Robert Thornton v Gary Anderson

0-0 - Robert Thornton will throw first
1-0 - Thornton makes a confident start, hitting two 140s and taking the opening leg on double ten in 15 darts.
2-0 - Thornton's fine opening continues as he kicks off with 140 and 180, before hitting a 105 and taking out 76 for a 12-darter to break.
3-0 - Thornton moves three legs up by landing two further 140s and hitting tops for a 13-darter.
4-0 - Thornton misses tops to win a fourth successive leg, but Anderson - on 84 - misses the single 14 which would have given him a dart at the bullseye, and his opponent returns to hit tops to break throw again.
4-1 - Anderson opens with a 180, but Thornton hits his second maximum of the game in reply, only to miss the bullseye to win a fifth straight leg, allowing the 2011 champion to get off the mark by taking out 124 on the bullseye - his first dart at a double in the game.
5-1 - Anderson leaves 32 as he bids to hit back further, but Thornton takes out 93 on double seven to regain his advantage.
6-1 - Thornton lands another 180 and takes out double 18 for a superb ten-dart finish to ensure he will remain unbeaten.
6-2 - Thornton posts his fourth maximum of the game, but Anderson keeps his hopes alive by taking out 104 on tops.
7-2 - Thornton finishes 118 to secure the win with a sensational 109.33 average.

Andy Hamilton v Michael van Gerwen

0-0 - Andy Hamilton will throw first
1-0 - Hamilton makes a brilliant start with a maximum, and finishes 66 on double 18 to win the opener.
1-1 - van Gerwen levels by finishing double ten, after Hamilton is unable to take out 139.
1-2 - van Gerwen breaks throw with double 16 for a 13-dart finish.
1-3 - van Gerwen hits a 180 as he wins a third successive leg.
1-4 - The Dutchman initially misses his chance, but Hamilton is off-target with three darts at double 16 and van Gerwen lands double four to break throw again.
2-4 - The pair trade 180s before Hamilton breaks back by finishing 100 on double ten.
2-5 - The youngster adds another maximum and posts double eight to move three legs clear.
2-6 - van Gerwen ensures he will remain unbeaten, hitting another 180 as he leaves 64 after nine darts before hitting tops to seal at least a draw.
2-7 - van Gerwen opens with his fith 180 of the game and lands double four to seal a brilliant win.

James Wade v Phil Taylor

0-0 - James Wade will throw first
1-0 - Wade hits double 16 to win the opening leg in 15 darts.
1-1 - Taylor - using a different style of barrel on his darts - misses double 16 initially, but when Wade misses tops to complete a 99 combination, the reigning champion returns to hit double eight at the third time of asking to level.
2-1 - Wade posts a 180 and finishes 85 in two darts on tops to continue his strong start.
2-2 - Taylor finishes 67 in two darts to square the game once more.
2-3 - Wade is unable to finish 110, and Taylor posts double 16 to break throw for the first time.
2-4 - Taylor opens the leg with 140 and 180, and although he initially misses three darts on the wire of double top, he returns to hit the bed and move two legs clear.
3-4 - Wade hits a 180 and then finishes 72 to reduce the game to one leg.
3-5 - Taylor finishes 94 on double eight to regain his cushion.
4-5 - Taylor scores 177, 140 and 134 to leave 50 after nine darts, but misses two darts at double 16, and Wade punishes him by taking out 68 on tops.
4-6 - Taylor posts double top to ensure that he will remain unbeaten.
5-6 - Wade opens with 180 and 134, with Taylor replying with a maximum and a 140 but only able to watch on as the 2009 champion finishes tops for an 11-darter to force a deciding leg.
6-6 - Taylor is unable to take out 142 but leaves 40, only for Wade to pin tops for an 80 checkout to grab a draw.

Wes Newton v Adrian Lewis

0-0 - Wes Newton will throw first
0-1 - Newton hits a 180 but misses four darts at double 16, and Lewis returns to hit double ten.
1-1 - Newton misses three further darts at doubles, this time at tops, but returns to hit the bed and level.
2-1 - Newton takes out 71 on tops.
3-1 - Newton hits tops once more to break throw again and move two legs clear.
4-1 - Lewis lands a maximum in reply, but Newton is first to a finish and hits double top once again to continue his run.
4-2 - Lewis hits back by taking out a seemingly effortless 117 on tops.
5-2 - Newton ends a 60 combination on double five to move three legs clear once more.
6-2 - Newton lands his second maximum of the game, and although he misses the bull and two further darts at doubles, he returns to post double four to ensure at least a point on the night.
6-3 - Lewis initially misses double seven, but Newton is unable to land double 14 for the match and the world number two hits the bed with his next attempt to keep his hopes alive.
